NBR: a dog hit on our road today

So, my husband came home tonight and said that there is a black lab with red collar that had gotten hit laying at the end of our road.  He said you could tell someone hit it and it was dragged and then just thrown up on the bank.  He went down to see if there was a tag on the collar but there wasn't.  Who should we contact?  I am sickened by this.

ETA: sorry for being  too graphic. I really am bothered by this and not sure what to do.

  • OMG poor boo! May he RIP. I too am sick over this. Does your local PD have a non-emergency line? I bet they could come down and get him and scan the body for a chip.

    How heartbreaking :(

  • ugh...I hate when I see ANY animal hit, even squirrels or raccoons....about 2 weeks ago I was on my way home from work and I saw a cat that had been hit sitting in the middle of the road, but was still alive..I stopped to help it, its back leg was severely broken and it was bleeding really bad, I tried to pick it up in a towel but it got scared and ran into the woods and I couldn't find it. It drives me crazy not knowing if it is ok, or what happened to it.I didn't even get time to see if it had a collar...so sad...Sad

  • It pisses me off when a cat or dog get's hit by a car and the jackass didn't stop to attend to it or drive it to an animal clinic.

i hope karma catches up to that person.

  • I would take it to the emergency clinic in the area...but that's just me.

You could call animal control, but I'm afraid they may put it down instead of trying to rescue it.

  • I'd call the local animal shelters and report the find/location and see if anyone reported a lab w/ red collar missing- you could at least give them some closure.

I'm with you! Just because it's an animal doesn't mean it deserves to suffer, these idiots will be sorry one day!

DH said that it was all ready gone when he checked it out.  We went back down but it is gone now.  I'm assuming someone driving by saw it and took it away.
