My doctor approved Tylenol, plain Robitussin (guafinesin), and saline nasal spray. If you're choosing not to use any meds whatsoever, saline nasal spray and a humidifier are pretty much your arsenal. Some women swear by the neti pot, but I haven't used one yet.
Using those microwaveable heating pads for my neck/shoulders
I'm pretty "anti-meds". Even before being PG, I'd have to be dying before I'd take something. Just relax, drink more water, and figure out what is targeting your headaches.
We also bought an air purifier and it has helped my allergies a TON.
I almost died for the last 2 weeks. I had a horrible flu with cough and congestion for 10 days. I had to get by on Tylenol (which really did nothing, except help with headache), plain Robitussin (which did nothing again) and a humidifier. Also, a couple of times, I took a Benadryl to see if it would help with congestion and it did a little bit. Other than that, I just drank tea with honey and slept sitting up for 10 days pretty much. It was awful. GL to you, hope you feel better soon!
My dr. recommended a bunch of meds that I could take but I just did vicks put it on my chest and under my nose and then i used a saline solution for my nose I was over a cold in a week.
saline nasal rinse (not just spray, but rinse, like nettipot of neilmed sinus rinse).
breathe right strips at bedtime
humidifier
sleep
apple juice
hard candies for the cough
This! Plus tea with honey and lemon they have kleenex with vicks imbedded in them they smell a little strong but it breaks it up and lets you get it out. Robitussen for cough at night if none of its working was oked by my doc but I used it once... Halls makes a citrus cough drop that was great too target 3$ for an 80ct bag HTH
My favorite non-medicinal remedies are (1) neti pot and (2) hot water w/honey and lemon. The neti pot was fantastic when I had a horrid sinus infection. The hot water w/honey and lemon was good to soothe my throat and the warmth of the drink seemed to help too, though that may have just been psychological.
I'm a fan of the netti pot but if you are to congested it wont work for you. If thats the case I just saline spray. Also, I drink Braggs Apple Cider Vinager, its organic and contains "the mother" is supposed to be good for sinus problems. I normally mix a couple tablespoons with cranberry juice.
Thank you ladies! Yesterday I did Tylenol Cold, but after all your suggestions today I have been pill free. I've taken the hot "caffeine free" tea approach and DH hooked up a Vicks vaporizer... that's okay right? As soon as I'm clear in both nostrils, I'm doing Nettipot.
Re: Avoiding meds when you are sick? What did you do...
Sinus rinse (like a netti pot)
Drink more water
Rubbing temples or back of head
Using those microwaveable heating pads for my neck/shoulders
