Hi ladies,
My DH and I are at the point where financially, I can no longer continue to stay at home with DD purely as a SAHM. The thought of having to leave her at day care or with someone else breaks my heart though! I've been looking around for something I could do from home for income but most of the google hits you get for jobs like that are bogus.
My question is, do any of you girls work from home and what do you do? Any ideas to bring in a part time income? I desperately want to do something that will allow me to stay with my daughter : (
Re: Are there any legitamate work-from-home jobs?
Have you thought of Mary K, Avon, Pampered Chef, etc? Most of that would be late evening or weekend jobs.
ETA:It might be too late now but I know the Census jobs were paying 17 per hour, or even delivering newspapers would bring in something, even if not much.
I have a degree in Biology which is practically useless unless you continue to graduate work/medical school
jday: what experience/education is required for web design? I am very good with computers and I have a lot of art/design experience. Is there any degree required for this?
kmf: Not sure, but doesn't the Mary Kay, Avon, etc. require a large start up fee for the products you'll be selling?
Sadly, I do think at least with the Pampered Chef kind of thing that you do have to put $ out. Can you make things & sell them on Etsy? If you are good with design you should try doing invitations or party stuff, a ton of us get stuff off of there.
Avons start up fee is only $10. That gets you the first two books and a little training. You have to buy the books from there on and any samples
Avon does not require a start up fee. However, you pay Avon for the products you order. Your customers pay you. They also have an online website available to representatives, so you can be an e-rep. But you have to pay additional money for that too. It does allow more of a work from home opportunity though.
As far as working from home, I do this at least 3 days a week. The other two are in the office. I work in global HR for a large firm, so they people I need to speak to in order to do my job are over the phone, as they are in different countries. One thing I need to point out is that my daughter is still in daycare 5 days a week. It would be impossible for me to do my job and take care of my daughter at the same time. Most work-from-home opportunities still require you to actually put in a full day of work. I agree with a PP that a lot of jobs that offer working from home options usually require a certain set of skills and education. The exception would be something like selling Avon, etc., which would allow you to do it while the baby is sleeping.
Sorry, I wasn't aware of the $10 fee. I just know the way it works once you sign up. My mom was an Avon rep for a while.
