How can I stop DD from grinding her teeth????

Oh my gosh, it's driving me bonkers.

She has six teeth now (four on top, two on bottom), and she thinks that grinding them together is a fun activity.

It's like nails on a chalkboard to me, plus I don't think it's good for her teeth.

Any way to encourage her not to do this???  I try to distract her, but the only thing she can't do while grinding her teeth is eat!!!  I've even taken to trying to get her to suck on my finger (like when she was a newborn and refused a paci) just to give her something else to do!!!

It's gotten a little better for DS, although he still does it. I think that when they first discover it, it's really fun to do, but then it gets boring. 

 

And I'm with you on the nails on a chalkboard thing! I had to use a stroller for a couple weeks because DS would do it when I wore him and it drove me up a wall!

Omg I hate it too but I have no idea how to make it stop. Hopefully they grow out of it.

J does it too, and it drives me bonkers. He tends to do it when bored so I'll distract him. If that doesn't work he gets a pacifier. He usually only gets them at night, but I can't stand the noise!

It's totally a phase she'll outgrow in a few weeks!

i would try to give her a snack or something when she did it -which was really often for a few months... but i haaated it!!  the doc said it was fine and normal, and it's best to ignore it so they dont keep it up.

It will probably go away or diminish when she discovers a new sound she can make.  DS exchanged teeth grinding with a long, gutteral, cough/laugh.
