Yesterday at the grocery store, DH and I saw an Intelligender test where you pee on a stick and it can tell you if you're having a boy or a girl. DH got all excited but I was suspcious. It claims results are 82% accurate. We didn't buy it (you have to be at least 6 wks anyway) but I was wondering if any of you have heard of this or if you'd use it?

Results are more like 50/50.
If someone wants to get you one as a gift, I would say, go ahead and pee on it. But I wouldn't spend the $30.
Wait, it had glitter in the test? Wow!
Cooper+Evie=Soulmates

Haha. It was a puppies and rainbows manufactured test.

actually you guys.. and don't make fun of me.. but I plan on using it... I did a lot of research and it actually IS 80-90 percent accurate... and you're supposed to be at least 10 weeks pregnant to use it... I'm not going to use it and start buying all pink or blue.. but for something fun I'm definitely planning on it.......
ETA - btw the first time I saw in in the store with my BFF while TTC I laughed and thought it seemed completely ridiculous.. the box even looks so corny.. but do a little research and you'll find it's actually got science behind it.. it's even banned in India and China to prevent gender selecting abortions.......
No, but for real- YOUR urine cannot accurately predict the sex of your baby.
Cooper+Evie=Soulmates

did I not request that you don't make fun of me
o and by the way it isn't glitter it is LITERALLY crystals...
hahaha and YES I understand how silly it seems but I'm just being honest that I'm probably going to try it, either way.
I wasnt making fun of you- I was simply stating again that it doesnt actually work. Why would you want to waste the money? That just donesnt make sense to me.
Cooper+Evie=Soulmates

stating that it doesn't work when you haven't even looked into it doesn't make sense to me... and also.. even if it was 50/50... which it's not
... people spend money on gambles with worse chances than that all the time... it's something to do for *fun* ..yes it's a gamble but technically an u/s isn't 100% positive either. IMO it seems like you're being condescending, as opposed to just saying you wouldn't buy it like the rest of the posters.
Give me the $30. I'll have just as accurate a guess as the test.
There's nothing in your urine that can determine if you're having a boy or a girl.

Just curious, what research did you read?
This.
However if someone wants to spend their money I certainly don't care. I just feel bad for anyone who takes it too seriously.
The ones I looked at only cost $30 to buy- but THEN you have to pay a $250 lab fee when you actually send the test in. I figure when you factor in that you have to wait until 10 weeks to take it + the amount of time it takes for the lab to get it, process it, and send you the results.... I will save my $280 and find out in a couple extra weeks.

You say condescending...I say brilliant. *shrugs*

Anytime, love. I miss you.
If you don't mind spending the money I agree and think it would be fun. Yes, urine can't predict the sex, but the Chinese gender chart is even crazier and I'm still curious to see if it will work.
I will also probably hang my wedding band over my bump to see which way it rotates (or whatever it's supposed to do) it's just fun to play!
I agree though, I wouldn't place any importance on it, like buying pink vs. blue stuff.
Very true, but I also think it's silly to spend money on fortune tellers etc. but people still do that. I have been to two bachlorette parties where we got our palms read for fun.
Well, at my grocery store they were on sale for 13.50 and personally, I've already spent that much on pregnancy tests that I take just to reassure myself even though I already know I'm pregnant. I don't see how they could sell something that was completely inaccurate and since gender is determined by chromosomes, who's to say that there isn't something in the urine that can predict gender?
I don't think I'll buy it anyway. Truthfully, I wouldn't want to know just yet... I like the suspense and I can find out with an ultrasound anyway, but if anyone is interested: here is some information.

I have done a psychic reading and it's more scientifically accurate than this test.
Intelligender tests are based on the idea that having a high PH will help you conceive a boy and a low Ph will help you conceive a girl. While that idea is research based, it's only based on the time around conception. The Ph conditions in the vagina during pregnancy can change a lot, so it's not really a valid way to test if you're having a boy or a girl.
If you want to take the test but not buy the kit, just buy some Ph testing strips. If you have a high Ph, intelligender would tell you you're having a boy. If you have a low Ph, intelligender would tell you you're having a girl.
And because Ph can change, so can the test results.
Consider this, if there really was an accurate way to determine gender by dipping a stick in urine, don't you think your Dr. would do that instead of waiting for u/s results?
