Teething Nightmare

Ok, so I think we've graduated to full on teething:  refusing to eat, waking up 6 times a night, etc.  I know it's a phase and we've just gotta get through it, but aside from Orajel and Motrin (should we need them) is there anything we can do to help alive her pain and help with the night wakings?  DH and I are zombies!

Re: Teething Nightmare

  • Two things have helped DD with teething pain: 1) put an ice cube in one of LO's socks and have her suck on it and 2) use one of those gum brushes to massage her gums when she is in pain.

I have heard the Orajel should be avoided because it makes their gums numb and then interferes with their ability to eat.  So you might want to try to not use the Orajel and use some of the other strategies to see if that helps with her eating.

  • I'll give both of those a try - thanks!

Orajel doesn't seem to interfere at all with her eating...rather, it helps her eat better.  If she's having trouble eating and is getting fussy, I can use Orajel and she will polish off her bottle no problem.  I don't do it for every feeding, but I definitely have used it before.

  • A lot of girls on here us the Humphrey's teething tablets pellets...available at CVS.  All natural, cherry flavored.  You dissolve 3 pellets in 1 tsp of water and rub onto the gums.  It's supposed to relax as well!
