Babies: 9 - 12 Months

any other 11 month olds not eating a lot of finger foods?

DS still eats a lot of baby food, cereal, yogurt, and puffs. He doesn't like a lot of table food...gags and pushes it  away and just doens't seem interested...anyone else?

  • Yes, my little girl loves the puffs, crunchy things like 'zesty tomato crunches" and baby food. She is picky. What helped was having a few different foods like, steamed broc./gerber chicken/pasta... and having her pick what she would eat. She likes to 'throw' if she is uninterested. Sometimes she has to look at new foods for a bit until she is ready to try them. I think that many babies might have issue with new textures.
  • My DD is not quite 11 months, but I can already tell you she will probably still be that way then. I hate all the posts about how it seems like every other baby is on table food.

  • My DD is still on only baby food purees and formula, with some puffs.  She does not get any table foods but that is because she is on a strict diet from the GI specialist.  We go back this week and hope that he changes some of her restrictions so she can try more foods.  She does gag on thin liquids like water because we have had to thicken her formula since she was 3 months old.  We have tried some diced apples/carrots but she gags on them too.  You are not alone! Don't worry!
  • DS1 was like this.  He had a really sensitive gag reflex and just couldn't deal with chunky or textured food.  I found an early intervention program in my state and county and it has been wonderful.  I really don't worry about him gagging anymore.  Maybe a program like this can help your LO too. Good luck!
