Have you made carrots for LO?

I just did. Talk about a PITA. Steam steam steam, then into the mini food processor only to realize that they weren't steamed enough, back in to steam some more, back to the mini food processor, add water, finally get a half assed product that still wasn't entirely smooth. wholesomebabyfood.com wasn't much help.

Not to mention that I bought organic carrots which were super skinny and I got more peel than carrot. A single ice cube tray cost me $6. Ridiculous.

Tips or ideas anyone?

Re: Have you made carrots for LO?

  • Try frozen, especially for carrots.
  • I used frozen carrots which made the whole process easier, also you can run it through a strainer which helps make sure it is smooth enough. Hope that helps!

  • Ahhh. Do the frozen carrots take just as long to steam?
  • as pp's said frozen - or organic baby carrots (you don't need to peel, cut them into thirds... they'll steam faster)

  • I buy the fresh organic bags of baby carrots. No cutting or peeling. Easy.

I have a babycook though so it steams them to the right cosistency.

  • Maybe I'm doing mine wrong? I take the bagged baby carrots and put them in a dish with a bit of water (not even enough to cover them), cover the top of the dish with saran wrap (tenting it open on one side) and put them in the microwave for about 7 minutes, then I pour a bit of bm in my Magic Bullet container and throw in the carrots and blend. I have also left them to cook longer in the microwave, and skipped the Bullet part and just mashed them with my fork.

Nope. That sounds fine to me. Not that I'm the carrot cooking pro or anything. I steamed in the microwave, too. Your DD is older and a bit of a coarser (is that even a word... random...) consistency is likely OK. DD just started solids a couple weeks ago and she doesn't like much texture right now.

  • I buy organic baby carrots, and steam (we use the beaba). I puree them with bolthouse carrot juice. LO seems to love them.

I thought carrots were super easy. I buy a bag of baby carrots at Trader Joes and just steam them until they are tender, you can test with a fork then puree.

I cut into small chunks before I put them in the water, then set the timer for 20 minutes to steam on the stove. They take FOOOOOREVER, but I like that I can turn them on and not worry about overdoing it too much.
