2nd Trimester

Entering the 2nd trimester!

Hi, everyone!  I'm brand new to this board!  Just hit 14 weeks today & I could not be more excited!  This is my 1st pregnancy.  I suppose I was hoping to miraculously start feeling better like today, but it doesn't seem to be working that way so far!  Lol!  I am just hoping the nausea passes soon & that I have more energy.  So here's a question.  What do you all think of prenatal massage therapy?  I have been dying for a massage, but I haven't taken the time to call around yet to see what massage places in my area have therapists who are trained in prenatal massage.  For any of you who have tried it, how did it make you feel & did you enjoy it or did it make you feel worse?

Re: Entering the 2nd trimester!

  • Congrats! Welcome to 2nd tri! I hope you feel better soon. I've heard prenatal massages are great but I haven't had one yet.
  • Congratulations and welcome! I'm sure you'll slowly start feeling better soon.

  • HI! New to the 2nd Tri board too! 14 weeks today. Having a little more energy but I feel like I drank the whole bar last night (nausea)... Anyways, I don't think that at this point you specifically need a prenatal massage, just have the therapist concentrate on areas that are bothering you and just try to get some relaxation time in!!!
  • I get weekly massages due to back pain and certain trigger points around the left rib cage causing severe pain.  They really help a lot (in combination with working out to strengthen those areas).  They have been extremely helpful to me.  As far as just getting a prenatal massage - can't see why anyone would have anything bad to say.  The only difference is positioning, you side lie and just switch sides. A bolster under the belly and another under the leg/knee are used to properly position you - especially when you have a large belly:)
  • Welcome!

I get short massages at PT in the chair which are fabulous.  The full body massages I get from my MT are done on my side, which for me personally is a little uncomfortable for my shoulders (not sure where I should let them fall), but it does wonders for my back.

  • Congrats & welcome!  I had a massage when I was 20 weeks and I liked it.  It was very relaxing.  Just make sure that when you call to schedule one, tell them you are pregnant and you want a certified prenatal massage therapist.  Def. get one...go for it!

  • Welcome! I just had a massage last week, but was a little disappointed. She said there are pressure points in the low back that can cause contractions, so she avoided that area. But, that was where my pain was! She also warned me that there is a pressure point in the ankle too, so when you get a pedi you have to be careful. Check around and check out the different places. I did feel relaxed afterwards, but not as much as I hoped.

  • I had my first prenatal massage this past Wednesday, and it was amazing! However just like newly_naugler said, the therapist avoided my lower back and feet/ankles due to pressure points.Other then that, I felt ahhhhh-mazing afterwards and can't wait for the next one!!
  • Wow!!  Thanks for the warm welcome!  You are all awesome!  And thanks for all the massage advice!  It's all great & I'm glad to hear so many good things about prenatal massage!  I can't wait to get one!
