baby journal (help!!)

okay so I have decided to do a pregnancy/baby journal... DH and I went to Barnes & Noble last night and found a blank journal we actually agreed on (I'm gonna try to post a pic at the end of this but if it doesn't work sorry)

I consider myself a little too crafty/creative to use those fill in the blank ones, so I picked a regular lined notebook and now I'm not sure where to start. I think I'm going to make it a part journal part scrapbook.. and include a few pics of u/s and my belly etc.  I think I'll try to write at least once a week but I can't decide if I should write it like a diary or if I should write it as letters to the baby.. agh I'm just afraid of being cheesy :/

plus a major reason I'm writing it isn't for the baby, actually, it's for my husband because he'll be deployed from the time I'm around 4-5 months pregnant until the baby is around 2-3 months old.. I'd like to give him something to be able to read when he gets home so he feels more like he was a part of it.

ANYWAY this is getting long, sorry.  my question is does anyone have any ideas on what sort of things I could write or be updating on? it's sort of a general question but any opinions or advice is appreciated!!!

Re: baby journal (help!!)

  • In my DD's baby book I constantly switch back and forth between talking about her to talking to her, so I know what you mean!

As for what to write and how to get started, I'd start with you guys' decision to start trying for a baby. Why you tried now, emotions about it (scared, excited), how many months you tried. Talk about the day you got your BFP. Where were you? How did you celebrate? How did you tell your husband or was he there?

How did you tell everyone else?

As for weekly updates, talk about your symptoms, cravings, thoughts in general. Of course, any time you go to the doctor, fill out all that happened at the appointment. Are people guessing boy or girl?

I think once you get started you'll realize you have a lot to say ;)

  • That is such an awesome idea! I love Smores comments, and I think I will start a journal as well. I have thought about it several times, but like you wasn't sure what to say. I think I will write mostly letters to the baby, then I will be able to give it to "my peanut" when he/she is pregnant with their own child or when they get married. This is what a friend of mine's mom did, and it was the most emotional, amazing wedding present ever. I would love to do that for my child. Good Luck!

aw thanks, good luck to you too!  my DH said that about wanting to give it to them when they were adults or having kids of their own, but I have the feeling I'll probably read it to them when their little, as soon as they'd be old enough to sort of understand!  it's exciting either way, plus it's a good way to channel all of the emotions, hopes, and fears I'm feeling right now! :) happy journaling!
