I taught DD1 a few common signs (more, please, milk, all done, thank you, etc..) and just did it myself w/ the help of a baby signs book. I was amazed at how quickly she picked up on it!! I think I started doing it around 8 months and it only took a couple times of me signing/saying a word before she picked up on it and started doing it herself.
It was soooooooooo helpful and really eased her frustration to be able to communicate simple things with us. Still now, she'll often sign please as she says it. I definitely plan on doing the same w/ DD2

It is a DVD-well, there is more than one. I got a book to- but somehow in this-thing-called-life, I wasn't doing the signs enough for her to catch on. So, I thought this might help....... or not....
my daughter just turn a year. We use the dvd and books, and we also have a baby signing class once a week in this area that goes along with that program. We love it! She is signing a lot!
yes it works, my friends son has Downs and that is how he communicates with her. Then her daughter picked it up too from watching the DVD and had like 200 signs by the time she was 18 months. My kids are going to start the kindermusik sign and sing class next month so they can learn it also. I just think it's a nice skill to have as they get older and then they can communicate with special needs kids.

If you do it consistently when the movies are not on than your child will pick it up! We had great success w/Harm around the 9-10 mos point. I'm hoping we will see results around the year mark w/the twins b/c they are a little behind being premies.
