Re: plus size swimwear

  • I found a tankini top at Target. I can't say I love it but I'm not sure I would love any of them! I didn't like any of the bottoms and I'm hoping I can use the bottom that I already have.

They have a bunch on sale right now too!

  • I'm getting one from lane bryant, it's not maternity though

  • I was a 16-18 pre baby and went to Motherhood to look at suits and they all looked awful on me. The ones with the skirt like tops (tankini) hit right at my bathing suit bottoms, so you just saw thunder thighs and it looked like I had nothing on. The tankini tops that scrunched up and went under my belly made me look like I had a giant fat lop. They were around $50 total.

I ended up getting a bigger normal bathing suit at Macys. It is very flattering and had great boobie support. Its a one piece that has a skirt like thing attached, but not old lady like. My DH actually said it was sexy... There is a mesh underneath that attaches the bottoms to the top and the skirt is umpire and hangs down. If I get too big, I am having my seamstress add a panel underneath. (The skirt is extra flowy with plenty of room).

I got a ton of compliments when I wore it to an outdoor spa/resort place.

    It was around $100.

ETA: I feel your pain in trying to find a suit. I burst in to tears in Motherhood. My DH was with me and I felt like I had found one "that would work" so I showed him and his words were "you look like $hit...we can do better" and sure enough, we found a MUCH better suit elsewhere. Hang in there.

  • I'm still wearing my non maternity swim suits (22 pre-preg).  One was a speedo that gives me decent support.  I may need something else before the end, but honestly if all I'm doing is floating in the pool, I'm not worried about support.

  • I was an 18 prepreg.  I have two motherhood bathing suits and love them both.  I think it depends on where you carry your weight.  I'm very top heavy (boobs, arms, stomach) and the Motherhood suits worked well for me, whereas I can never wear anything from Target because of the tops.
