Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Lovey suggestions??

I can't even put DS to sleep at night anymore because he wants to grab my hair from the nape and pull as he's falling asleep..and I can't take more than 2min of it cause it hurts! I think he needs a lovey...what age did you introduce one and what was it? I am so nervous to give anything cloth cause he's only 8mo old and I'm worried about suffocation...thoughts?

Re: Lovey suggestions??

  • DD pulls my hair too, but luckily she doesn't do it when falling asleep. Can you put your hair back in a tie, or wear some kind of hat when putting him to sleep? What about holding him in a different way so he can't get to your hair, or having your SO put him to sleep?

The SIDS recommendations say not to put anything in the crib (including a lovey) until they are 1 year. I know some people do it anyway though, so it's a personal choice.

  • I definitely wouldn't put it in the crib but DS loves his angel dear lovey!  It's the giraffe and I got it monogrammed.

This is Gages'. We introduced it around 5 months. I read 'The No-Cry Sleep Solution' and it recommended having a lovey that is only used at bed time. This helps the baby associate the lovey with sleep.

Gage loves this bear. We named her Lucy. And he wont go to sleep without her. I should probably get an extra. He cuddles her at night too. I leave it in the crib with him because it is so small. I dont worry really. He moves his face when it is against something.

  • we use the Angel Dear lovey as well-  I have 3 of the puppy one (crib, car & laundry). He LOVEs it.  I put it over my face and it is breathable-  it has been in the crib with him since he was 5 mos old and now he crawls to it and it helps calm him :)

  • Nora is not a 'lovey' baby (she's attached to her binky).. but she does have a Taggies blanket that she loves to play with.  I also got her the Angel Dear pink giraffe which is sooo cute and soooo soft.  I thought she needed a lovey, bc she used to need to hold my hand/fingers to fall asleep.. but eventually she just outgrew that.  Sometimes I put a stuffed animal in the crib with her and she plays with it until she wears herself out.  Works for me.

I'm usually big on the nothing-in-the-crib rule, but I just keep an eye on her on the video monitor, and once she falls asleep, I move things out of her way.
