I have a Recaro Signo that I got from Amazon for $160. LOVE it. It's got great safety ratings (including side impact ratings) and DD is so comfortable in it!
If your budget is $200 or less, you can get a Britax. This Marathon is $209, but you can do the 10% off for a first time customer at Diapers.com. There's also a Britax code but I'm not sure if it works on sale items. Free shipping, too ) That's how we got our Marathon... watch the clearance items!
We have an Evenflo Titan Elite, we LOVE it. I have a saturn ion and it fits in the center seat without crowding. It also has similar safety ratings to the Britax, is comfy for LO, and the straps are super easy to adjust. Install is easy too and took DH about 10 minutes tops. This seat is $99.00 at BRU
This is a forward facing only seat. It's a great seat, but NOT meant to be used for children under 1 year and 20 lbs. I'm just confused about whether you have an older child that you're using it for, since you most definitely cannot use it for a 6 month old.
As for my recs, I'd suggest the First Years TrueFit or Graco MyRide. Both are cheaper than the Britax seats but, IMO, you get more for your money since both have higher shells which will allow for longer RF and longer FF with a 5 pt harness.

We currently have and are using the Chicco Fit 30 for LO. Hope that clears up your confusion! I can read too.
We have the Graco Nautilus for DD who will be 4 in June - we moved her into it in September when we gave her Marathon to DS. But honestly I wouldn't recommend a Nautilus for a 1 year old. It has to be forward facing and ideally LO will be rear facing well beyond one year. It also is a pretty big seat for a 1 year old.

So then why are you recommending a seat that you've never even used and isnt an appropriate seat for the child in question? The poster is asking for alternatives to a Britax convertible seat to use NOW, not for a FF only seat they can use, at absolute bare minimum, in 6 months.

I stated in my original comment that it is highly rated in Baby Bargains, which it is. OP never stated in her original question when she would be using the carseat...just asked for non-Britax recommendations, which it is.
Some people that are looking for affordable alternatives may want or need to use a forward facing carseat sooner than others. It's a viable alternative, recommended by Baby Bargains and cost-effective. It's got a 5 point harness to use from 20-65 lbs. While it may not be the one you chose apparently or would choose, it's still an alternative option which I thought was what the OP asked for.

This. We have loved DS1's so much (he's been in it for 20 months!) that we bought a second one for DS2.

Didn't realize you were the carseat moderator.
