After doing some more research (which I wish I would have done sooner) I have decided to switch doctors. I have known that I want a med-free birth and when I talked to my current doctor about it she didn't really say much, which was unsettling. I blew it off and thought that it wouldn't be a big deal, but after reading some reviews and talking to women who have delivered at this hospital I have decided that it would be best for me to find a new doctor/hospital. The hospital I would have delivered at has a high rate of c-sections, but it there are a lot of high risk women who deliver there. I found a hospital where they are very med-free friendly. I also found a group of doctors/midwives who deliver there. I can't wait for Monday so I can call and make an appointment.

Re: switching doctors at 24 weeks
Yay for taking charge of your birth! With my first pregnancy I just continued w/ the practice I saw for gyn... until about 24 weeks when I mentioned to the doc I wanted a med free birth and he laughed at me... YES he laughed! He said we'll see what happens, everyone starts out wanting to go medfree. Ummm no actually most of my friends want to schedule their epi's w/ their first prenatal appt
Needless to say we switched to a fantastic midwife practice at the same awesome hospital and I had an AWESOME birth.
If I may offer one piece of unasked for advice... if you want to go medfree do not let anyone convince you ahead of time that drugs should remain an option. Most of the women who plan natural and refuse to think about drugs that I know get exactly what they want. Part of your brain will always know meds are an option but if you go in saying you WILL have a medfree experience you will
: ), I kind of felt like my doctor was laughing at me on the inside. Thank you for sharing your experience, and I don't mind the "unasked for advice". I totally agree with you. I am going into this knowing that I am having a med-free birth, and we are preparing for it with Bradley classes.
Since I made this decision I have felt like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The past few nights I have had nightmares about being forced to be induced. I just wish I would have decided to switch sooner.
More power to ya! I switched OB's around then too.. I had my 22wk appt with my one OB then switched to my new one for my 26wk appt and such.. Was a waaaay better decision my old OB was so awkward and really aloof and this one is a lot nicer it seems and not just trying to push me in and out the door he asks if I have questions a few times and such..
Good luck to you!
haha, I'm also taking Bradley classes : ). My doctor didn't really say anything when I asked her about them. I feel so much better today, it is such a relief to know I will be getting what I want out of my doctor.
good luck to you! there's plenty of time for a switcheroo and you'll feel so much better about it.
this isn't really the same, but my midwife moved when i was 20 weeks and i had a new midwife i hadn't met previously, for the next 20 (well, 22) weeks. it seems like my second midwife was my one and only all along!
