Baby Names

Abigail vs. Adelyn

Sorry ladies...I told DH he wasn't allowed to change his mind, but I should have known that he'd give me a hard time anyways  - if it were up to me this baby would have been named months ago!

We HAD settled on Adelyn, but I think DH just agreed to keep me happy (aka shut me up). He's always loved Abigail and is set on that name. I've always like it too, but I'm afraid it's too popular.

So, my question is, if you had to choose (based on popularity and overall "trendiness") - Adelyn or Abigail?

Re: Abigail vs. Adelyn

  • I would choose Abigail. Both names are popular, but I feel as though Adelyn is more trendy and dated then Abigail will end up being.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I like both names but I would probably go with Abigail.  I think it seems more classic and less trendy, regardless of the popularity.  Both are relatively popular and beautiful names though, good choices!

  • I would def choose Adelyn. Such a pretty name. And I know several little Abigails (I think three) but no Adelyn.

  • I have no idea what the popularity numbers are of either without looking it up, but I would choose Abigail hands down. I am not a fan of Adelyn at all.

  • I would choose Adelyn based on nothing more than I like it much better than Abigail (or Abby).

  • I prefer Adelyn (although I like the spelling Adalyn better). I know a ton of little girls named Abigail, but only one Adalyn.

  • I prefer Abigail. I think it will age a lot better than the current Addison/Adelyn/Addalyn trend.
  • Adelyn for sure. Abigail I never really liked I just like the nn Abby that's the only thing I like about it.

This exactly. I personally am really sick of both boys' and girls' names that end in "den" or "lyn". Other than the ones that were always around, like Evelyn.

I like Abigail better. They are both super popular. Adelyn is the Aiden of girls' names.

    I agree
