Could it be a false negative?

ok so this is week 6, i took a test yesterday and it came out negative. I really thought it would be positive. i had spotting April 1-4 which i've never had before. did it take some of you longer for it to come up positive? if so, what week?

Re: Could it be a false negative?

  • Wait, wait. Have you not gotten a + test yet? Why do you have a ticker if you dont know that youre pregnant?

  • I would have to agree. What would make you think you're pregnant?

I'm 6w3d and have 4 + HPT, 1 + blood test, and confirmation from the dr. I don't think you sound pregnant - you probably just had a light period. Perhaps you should see your Gyn?

  • I'm confused too. Did you see your doctor yet? Get a bloodtest? Have you gotten ANY +HPTs??

Have you ever gotten a positive HPT test? If not, why do you have a ticker up on your siggy?

    I got a +HPT at 12dpo.

That is odd. Take another one, thats the best way to know...

  • the reason i think i am is because i've had nausea every day, headaches every day and bloating every day. no i haven't had a positive test yet, i guess i put the ticker up for wishful thinking. and i didn't "post and run" i went to take a shower if you must know. and around the time of ovulation me and my fiancee had sex every other day.

How do you know you ovulated? Do you chart?

Also, just so you know, around the time of ovulation my husband and I had sex every other day.....for 12 cycles. And I JUST got pregnant.

I would definitely take the ticker down. You dont know that youre pregnant. If after 60 days you dont test + and dont get your period, call your dr.

    Oh jeeze.

You would certainly test positive if you were 6 weeks pregnant.

If you tested negative....YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT.

Unless you chart and take OPK's, you cannot be certain of your ovulation date. Ovulation calendars are crap.

Honey, I'll say it again...if you've tested negative. YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT.

  • You should prolly take the tests advice, I don't think you are pg, but I am no doc.  Kind of strange to never get a positive and put a ticker on your profile.  I understand having wishful thinking, but isn't more a let down by telling yourself everyday for SIX weeks that you ARE pg.  Just sayin.

  • We did answer your questions. You didn't like what we had to say. That's the issue here.

We all got POSITIVE tests on either home pregnancy tests or blood tests from the Dr.'s office.

We got positives when we were anywhere 10dpo-15dpo.....meaning in the 3rd week or early 4th week of pregnancy.

    Me too.

  • no none of you answered my questions b/c i was Specifically asking those who DIDN'T get a positive result until after they missed they're period. and my other Q was what week. One of my friends who son will be turning 1 in June didn't get a positive result until almost her 3rd month.

Just because something like that happended to your friend doesn't mean anything.

If you aren't getting a positive result from a home test and you think something is wrong then GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!

    It's really not that difficult.

But we DID get positive results....because we are pregnant...and that's how we knew it!!!

And how could someone take test after test for three months and then finally get a positive at 12 weeks? I'm not calling you (or your friend) a liar by any means, but that's just not how the body works.

Okay, I don't think you quite worded it that way. We were all assuming you had already gotten a +HPT, so you can understand our confusion. Yes, some girls don't get a positive until they have missed their period. However, I don't know how it's possible to be into your 3rd month before you test positive. Something's not right there.

  • 3rd month? *Rolls eyes*. Unless she has really long cycles and you just misunderstood her, she was using tests that weren't working right (like they were expired or something), or you're just making your "friend" up to try to make your point more valid, I don't buy it.

Call your Dr, they will give you a blood test, you'll have an answer in a day or so.

Dude, listen. If only people who DIDNT get a positive answered, you would have no answers.

A LOT of us didnt get a positive until after we missed a period, but you didnt actually miss yours did you. You bled April1-4. Whether it was spotting or not, that was your period. Cycles can vary all the time.

You will be hard pressed to find another person who didnt test positive until she was ACTUALLY 12 weeks pregnant. Unless of course, you contact the women from 'I didnt know I was pg". Because they never tested positive.

Plus my periods are 6-7 days and heavy the first 2 days, this time it was very light the first day, a lil heavier the next 2 and light again after that. and according to Webmd its best to wait 5-10 days after you miss your period before you test because you can get a false negative. and it's only been 2 days since i missed mine. and i am not "delusional" about how conception works and i am not a liar, whats the point in lying just to try an prove your point? there isn't one. My friend is very real and what i said about her is very true. if you don't believe me then oh well, i don't care. honestly do you people get on here just to try and bash everyone else because that's all I'm seeing.

First of all, where else have you seen us bash someone?

Second, it is normal for people to randomly have a shorter cycle. It happen.

Third, Just because you bled for a shorter amount of time doesnt mean that it wasnt your period.

Fourth, if you tested 4-5 days after what you THOUGHT should have been your expected period date, and got a negative then chances are, YOURE NOT PREGNANT.

    The End.

Okay, I'm going to take a stab at this.

You may or may not have gotten your period.  We don't know.  We aren't doctors.  And since you aren't charting you don't know when you O'd.

We do know that it is medically impossible (I think - ladies, correct me if I'm wrong here) to be 3 months pregnant and get a negative HPT.  That doesn't mean your friend was lying or that you are lying.  Maybe she used the HPT wrong.  Or maybe there was a misunderstanding.  No one is calling anyone a liar.

We're just saying, if you're getting negative HPTs, it is exceedingly unlikely that you are PG.  I'm sorry.  Keep trying.

Also, reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and sign up on fertilityfriend.com and start charting.  This will take the guesswork out of future cycles.

People on here are trying to give you advice.  It might not be what you want to hear, but no one is being mean.  Seriously, I wish you nothing but success in TTC, but it will help if you take some initiative to learn more about your cycles and start charting.

And if you want to post questions, you can't get all offended when you get answers you don't like.  It's time for some big girl panties.

    Good luck TTC!
