cell phone contracts fustrate me

OK so I am finally able to renew my contract with AT&T and get a new phone.  Now I don't need a fancy iphone.  My husband has an iphone but I don't have time to surf the web and use all that stuff.  I text but not a ton.  So all I didn't want is a flip phone.  I wanted something new.  A touch screen but no internet and our 200 text a month still works for us.  But NOOOOOOOOO if I don't choose a suckie flip phone all the other cool phones are unlimited texting and increases my cell phone bill $20.  I am not going to use this feature and don't want my bill to increase another $20 a month.  Also they were going to charge me $18 to activate a new phone.  Seriously?  My contract is up and I am signing up with you another 2 years!  Give me a freaking break!

I seriously wish the iphone was with other services so we could go somewhere else!

Oh no- that sucks.  I have actually been really happy w/ AT&T, but we have iphones and we have a corporate discount from delta b/c it used to be my mom's work account.  Now she doesn't use it, but it's still in her name.  We have 3 iphones (me, DH, and my dad) + 2 regular phones for my grandmothers.  We all share minutes and basically never run out- we don't have texting tho... just pay as we go.  We pay $200 a month for all 5 which comes out to $40 each which I think is pretty good!  Could you do a similar family plan?  I really think that is the best way to save money with them. 

Oh and this is funny too... Since my grandmothers phones are really only $9.99 a month- they pay me in rolled quarters- lol!

I have the discount too through my company.  I have a family plan because that was the best way to save $.  It is just me and my husband.  The plan works for us but I don't want to add a feature that I don't even use.  Why make me do something that I don't use?  See this wasn't even the case when my husband got his iphone 2 years ago.

Verizon does that with data plans..if you buy certain smart phones you HAVE to purchase the data plan. They don't do it with the texting though. I got a phone with the pull out keyboard to make texting easier and they did not require I add unlimited text to our plan. I agree that AT&T is being dumb/greedy.

You can get the activation fee waived over the phone post renewal. As for phones my MIL hsus a slide phinephone the has the look of the blacberry but does not require an unlImited data plan. GL cell phone companies suck.

I know exactly how frustrated you feel. I ran into this same problem when I went to upgrade my phone with AT&T. I didn?t want to pay $20 more a month just for services I don?t use. So my H and I stopped by the Best Buy cell phone kiosk and you can upgrade your phone and not have to add any extra services. I also got my new phone for FREE as they were running a promotion on the phone I wanted ? touch screen but also has a key board. So I walked out with the phone I wanted and no extra services for not one extra dime. YIPEE!!

 

I highly recommend skipping the AT&T store and going to Best Buy.
