OHSS

I'm really uncomfortable from ER today...very sore and uncomfortable standing/walking...is that normal he day of ER? I am also having a hard time taking full breaths, and have only peed once (and it was uncomfortable) the whole day and I've dranken a lot of Gatorade. Does this sound like a little OHSS or just typical ER stuff? Anything I should be doing besides drinking Gatorade?

Re: OHSS

  • I was very very sore the day of ER.  As soon as my meds wore off it hurt to walk and to do anything.  So it may just be normal.  I would keep resting and don't forget to weigh yourself.  This will be a good indicator of OHSS.

  • Drink V8 (2-3x the salt as gatorade). Drink tons of water. Eat whatever other salty food you can get. - Order Chinese or go to mcdonalds or something.

The difficulty breathing does not sound normal and you should have peed more. I would call your RE just to be safe.

  • I'm sorry to hear that!  I was in extreme pain yesterday so I can sympathise.  I couldn't walk, sit, or do anything without crying. I haven't been through ER yet (so no advice about what's normal), but I wouldn't wish what I went through yesterday on my worst enemy.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things.  My RE gave me "OHSS instructions" today and it really was just drink gatorade, monitor how much I pee, and weigh myself every morning.

I would probably call the RE emergency line if I were you.  If anything it would give you piece of mine.  Mine told me that if I have pain above a 4 on a 1-10 scale, that I needed to call.  And if I had trouble breathing or urinating I was to call or go to the ER.

    Hang in there!

  • It might just be post ER discomfort. But drinking Gatorade and getting a lot of rest is a good idea just to be safe. Also, weigh yourself every morning. If you notice a big weight gain, that's a sign of OHSS.

I hope you feel better son hon :)

I had very severe OHSS. I was told not to drink water, but to drink V8 and Gatordade, but more V8 than Gatorade because Gatorade has a lot of sugar. Also eat a lot of protein. I literally drank chicken broth alone to get a lot of salt. I was so uncomfortable that I was unable to lay down. I was peeing, but not too much. I did end up in the hospital for 10 days. It can be very serious. If you are short of breathe and not peeing a lot, definitely call the RE or just go there in the morning. I am literally praying for you because OHSS can be really terrible. GL! Keep us posted.

  • A few good things: I weighed myself and my weight hasn't changed, and my pee was light yellow. I put a call unto my RE though.

  • Im sorry that you're feeling uncomfortable. The day of my ER and two or three days after I still had pain and it was very painful to pee. I did not have OHSS, but my RE said my ovaries were so enlarged due to the large number of eggs thus causing all the problems. Like the pp said, if you do gain weight or have more trouble breathing it could be OHSS. I really hope it isn't and you feel better soon. Did your RE give you a Rx for pain meds? I took tylenol 3 for several days to help with cramping. An ice pack helped some of the cramping for me. Keep updated

  • So sorry, hope you feel better soon.

I would think that RE would have noticed signs & symptoms of OHSS during ER. Did you have any of these symptoms prior to ER?
