Cord Blood

Hi all :)  I'm new to the Bump... 1st pregnancy and we weren't TTC. So, lucky us, I guess :)

 I've been doing some reading on saving or donating cord blood. Are there any moms out there who have tackled this issue previously? If so, what did you choose to do and why?

    I really wanted to donate the cord blood, but I have lots of tattoos- 1 of which I got 2 weeks before we found out we were pg, so I can't. You cannot donate it if you have gotten a tattoo/ or piercing within 12 months of the time of donation.

    I looked at banking first, but it is just too expensive for us to do. I understand that it can be a priceless investment if something happens, but that's a risk we are going to take.

    I just saw an advertisement for this today at the doctor's office. I figured I'd do some research and talk to my DH about it.

    We saved our DS' cord blood and plan to do so with this baby as well. We used CBR (Cord Blood Registry). It was $2000 to initally extract the cord blood and it's $125 a year. Not bad, IMO.
