December 2010 Moms

I have never wanted a beer so badly

It is beautiful outside.  Sunny, 75 degrees, just an overall gorgeous day.  The perfect day for sitting outside on my patio table and enjoying a nice cold beer.

This summer is going to be rough.  I associate so much of summer with drinking.  I'm not an alcoholic or anything, but I enjoy my beer with barbecue, mojito while at the beach, and sangria when eating a nice dinner at a restaurant with outside seating.

Hopefully my aversions will kick in soon and I won't want anything with alcohol in it anyway.  Until then I'll just try not to think about it!  Which is hard when DH is sitting there drinking my favorite kind of beer right in front of me!

Don't get me wrong - it's totally worth it and I'll happily go without alcohol this summer, but there have been a few times the past week where a beer would have really hit the spot!

Re: I have never wanted a beer so badly

  • How  about non-alcoholic beer? My husband went on a kick trying out all the brands last summer and thought Beck's was the best.

We have 3 really good bottles of champagne in the fridge that we didn't drink fast enough...

  • I totally know where you are coming from.  DH is currently drinking a Captain and Diet Coke....mmm!  And I am drinking....wait for it....water!

I keep thinking about all the great summer drinks that I won't be able to enjoy this year, but then I try to think that it is all worth it in the end. And next summer we'll live it up!

Hang in there....we'll all get through this together! Here's a non-alcoholic beer for you in the meantime --> Beer

hmmm... maybe I'll try some non-alcoholic beer.  I've never had it before but I'll try it!  Maybe I should send DH out for some Beck's :)

  • I remember making myself a 'mocktail' last pregnancy. I bought some blue sugary non-alcoholic mix and mixed it with some sprite. It made me happy :)

On second thought, maybe I won't.  I just did a little googling about it and it turns out that even non-alcoholic beer is not considered ok during pregnancy (some people say it is ok but some don't) because it still has some alcohol in it, although less than .05%.   I'd rather be on the safe side and not have it, personally, but it's all about your own comfort zone!

  • Some people say alcohol is okay and some don't. There's the "British standard" which is 1 drink a week, I think.

It's always a judgement call. I'm not going to panic if I have one beer while I'm pregnant. I'm also not going to make it a habit.

That being said, I'm going to really miss beer and peanuts at Rays baseball games. Sad

  • I am with you ladies.. It was the perfect day for a beer at the mexican restaurant down the street. It will be tough this summer, but I know it will be worth it. I just figure, I have the rest of my life to drink and got lucky enough to have this wonderful experience. Plus, I am already looking forward to New Years Eve! lol
  • When I was pregnant with DD I poured an O'Douls into a frosty mug and stuck a lime in it . . .trying real hard to pretend it was a corona  :)

  • Oh man I feel ya on that one. We went to dinner tonight and man I wanted a pomegranate martini! And almost a year without margaritas.. Trust me, it's worth it but I will definitely miss my drinks!
  • I feel the same way.  My sister came over last week, and before I even told her she said she knew "something" was up when we were outside looking at my herb garden and I got a really sad face when we started talking about the mint and making mint juleps (or mojitos) for the Derby, lol.

  • The funny thing for me is, both DH and I quit (mostly) drinking in October in preparation for baby... but now I want a beer worse than ever. Oh the humanity.
  • My mom (who barely drinks) craved beer her whole pregnancy with my brother - literally as soon as he was born the craving went away!
