Hello! We found out we are pregnant with our first baby on 4/6 and we are due around Dec. 12th (the day after my birthday!
). I am very excited but it hasn't completely hit my husband....don't know why, since we had been trying for 3 months. It's not like it's a surprise or anything. I have my first doctor appointment a week from today.
Will they do an ultrasound or listen to the heartbeat at 6 weeks? My husband has to work, and I really don't want those procedures if he can't be there with me....
Re: Hi!
Welcome!! I am due the 13th which is my birthday!
In my last pregnancy they didn't do an u/s at all until I was 18 weeks. But that may have been because I worked at a pregnancy center and they did like 6 practice ones on me. That being said every doctor is different. Maybe call in advance?

I'm due December 13! When I set up my first appt I asked the scheduler about and u/s and she indicated that each doctor was different so it just depends.
Welcome to the board and congrats!

Many office will do an u/s around 6-8 weeks just to check how far along you are. There is also the NT Scan at the end of the first trimester which assesses your risk for Downs, etc.
Otherwise, most u/s are about 1/2 way through your pregnancy (20ish weeks). That is when you can find out the sex.
Congrats and welcome!
As for the u/s at the first appointment... It depends. I had one the first appointment for my last pregnancy, but the appointment wasn't until almost 9 weeks. This pregnancy our first visit was at 4 weeks which was way to early to see anything on an u/s so we just met with the doctor. I'd say it probably depends on your doctor and their protocols for new patients. If you want one though I would ask. No harm in asking!
