difference between cold and sinus infection

So dd was up all night last night, nothing is more pathetic than a 2 year old saying "Lucy nose, lucy more kleenex?"

She had a routine doc appt this morning and ears were ok, no fever, strep negative etc just a green, thick, gunky runny nose.  This afternoon she has been getting a little worse, more runny, more gunky, and now her right eye is getting pretty gross too.  I've caught her with her hand in her right ear and she tells me it's itchy.

When does a cold change to a sinus infection?

I wish there was an easy answer to this question.

My pedi warns that ears clear one day doesn't mean they will still be clear 48 hours later, so, after being check if symptoms escalate 48 hours later, and show no sign of improvement, give them a call.
