Drying up milk supply

I was just curious as to how long it took for your milk supply to dry up?  Since I've gone back to work we've decided to make the switch to formula.  Now I'm dealing with engorgement and am wondering when it starts to feel a little better?

 Thanks ladies!

Re: Drying up milk supply

  • It was BAD for 2 days or so... Within a week I'm back down to normal (left went down faster then right) ....still have a very little milk there, but it's not really leaking anymore. Heard it could be month(s) before you're fully dry

  • I just quit BFing this week, and it took me a few days to feel better. Like pp, one boob seemed to "recover" faster than the other. I pumped just enough to relieve the pain (maybe 5-8 mins total), and just kind of dealt with 2 days of feeling like crap. It's better now. I used ice for engorgement and that helped.

  • Thanks!  I was expecting a little discomfort - but not quite to this extent!  It was never painful before if I didn't pump for a long period of time, so I'm a bit surprised at how bad it's been so far!
