nbr: homeowners insurance

How much is your homeowners insurance per year in relation to how much your house is worth? DH and I want to buy a house so badly, and yes when the time comes we will call our insurance company before we commit, just wondering!

Re: nbr: homeowners insurance

  • $446 per year for $125,000.  But we've got Earthquake covg and a $1 Million Umbrella policy.  It just kind of depends on who you're looking at... A. Lot. of companies are having rate increases right now.  ( I sell insurance) Embarrassed

  • How much does it cost per year?

$1000...we're insured for 250,000. We paid 145,000 for it.

  • It depends on coverage, your deductible (like if it's $500 vs $2,000) and a lot of other factors.  In addition - just note it's how much your house is worth vs how much you paid for it (like the cost of the location isn't a factor just how much it would cost to rebuild it if it burnt down).   Ours is maybe $600 w/ $500 deductible.  I forget how much we had our house acessed at w/ out the land. . ..

  • PS - your insurance co should have a calculator to tell you how much you should insure your house for. It doesn't pay to insure it for more than it would cost to rebuild - because you won't get the whole amt if it burns to the ground.

I think it around $850, thats for $155,000.  I think thats the max coverage we could get too.  Covers hurricane too.  But not flood, thats like 150 a year
