"mini pill" -- help!?!

i was prescribed the mini pill today b/c i am breastfeeding . . .  please share your experiences with this?  I am nervous i can still get pregnant?? I told this to the physician and she swears it is effective as long as you take it the same time every day, but from lurking on the bump i was under the impression that many ladies have gotten preg.??

Re: "mini pill" -- help!?!

  • I got a prescription for it too but I dont know if I should trust it either. My dr said as soon as I stop BFing to switch to regular pills because its highly recommended that you take the other one ASAP. *sigh* that doesnt up my confidence.

  • My doctor told me the same thing. I bought a pack of condoms just to make sure though. lol. I figure when I stop breastfeeding I will go back on my previous form of birth control that I know works for me, but until then just using a back up method will put my mind at ease.
  • I was just going to post about this....I got a prescription for Ortho Micronor (or Jolivette) today...my doc told me that same as all you ladies. I am assuming it's the mini pill everyone is talking about. I am freaking out reading the leaflet about this stuff and worried about getting pregnant again while on it.
  • I just started t this week. I have since made sure I exclusively breastfeed. I was supplementing formula at least once a day before. I have been good about taking it at 9pm so far, but maybe I should just forget it and invest in condoms only...

  • it just seems like there are so many posts about ppl getting pregnant?  i am wondering if i should call back tomorrow and ask for an IUD?  i mentioned it today but she made it sound like it should be more for long term.  I dont know how long we want to wait until we have another, but i dont really want it to be right away either??  Im so glad you ladies all have the same concerns!  Since we are all in the same boat. . . .we will all probably be pregnant again at the same time!!! LoL
  • condom + mini pill = me not getting pregnant.

I honestly can't trust it by itself and I hate condoms.

Not to burst your bubble, but that cute little chubby guy in my siggy showed up when I had an IUD in!

No method is perfect--I've learned that the hard way.  That being said, I'm going back to my IUD.  I'm too much of a flake to do anything at the same time every day!

  • I think DH is more worried about me getting pregnant on the mini pill than I am.  I was told to take it the same time, but if it's an hour difference here or there it won't make a difference.  My my OB wants to see me back in his office and pregnant sooner rather than later.  heheh
  • I guess I should already know about this but I don't...but are you guys telling me that this pill is my only option since I breastfeed and it may or may not work???!!! OOH crap!
  • I took the mini pill for over a year and did not get pregnant. I set an alarm on my cell phone so I remembered to take it everyday at the same time. I did slip up a few times but I did not get pregnant. Now I stopped taking the pill in June planning to TCC in Sept. I tried using calendar method and got pregnant the first time we had sex supposedly the day after I stopped ovulating in June!  :)
  • oh and I started solids at 5 months...and did not use any other method of protection
