more of a boy or girl name

Scout

I know it's a girl's name in To Kill a Mockingbird and Demi Moore and Bruce Willis's daughter's name but I really prefer it for a boy. DH likes it too but for a girl. What do you think?

    Girl. Any name now a days can go either way though specially since Scout isnt too feminine so i guess it would work for a boy, but imo it fits a girl.

    Not a fan of it for any child but if I saw or heard the name I would assume it was a girl (since the character in To Kill a Mocking Bird).

    IMHO I really don't like the name... but I do happen to know a Scout, and it's a boy.

    I think it could be either,but I think most people who don't know better would assume your child is a girl before meeting them(or roll call in school,that sort of thing).

    I think it should not be a child's legal name. That's fine if you want to nickname your kid Scout but seriously?! Who wants that on their resume? It's fine for a pet but not a kid.

    ETA: Also, when I first started reading TKAMB, I thought Scout was a boy b/c I would've never thought of someone calling a girl that.

    Honest opinion? GREAT dog name. NMS but - cute nickname for a kid but don't like as a given legal name.

    It's our cat's name. I met someone else who has a cat named Scout and someone with a dog named Scout. To me, it's a cute pet's name!
