Tell me about your nursery chair

How would you describe your nursery chair? (Rocker, glider, lazy-boy style)

Is it better to glide or rock?

Is a reclining feature is important?

Did you get an ottman? (Or not need one? Not want one? Wish you did?)

Any recommendations regarding what type of chair to get would be appriciated!

Re: Tell me about your nursery chair

  • We got a recliner/rocker and I love it. It was by far one of my favorite purchases! I can't tell you how many nights both my DH and I have spent rocking DD to sleep or reclining back with her sleeping on our chests. There was a long period where DD would wake up several times at night and we would have to rock her back to sleep - that's a long story. She also went through this phase around 3-4 months where she would only nap on me, so we would go in there and take a nap with me reclining back and her sleeping on my chest. I miss those days. :-( We still use it now - we read books in it or when I get her up in the morning I bring her a sippy of milk and we cuddle in it.

We were able to customize the material on it. I will have to see if I can remember who made it... Here's a picture of it.

  • We got a glider that looks like a real chair (not the typical nursery glider) so that we can continue to use it after babies.  We did not originally get the ottoman but ended up getting on later.  I feel it is REALLY important.  I like that it has the nursing "step".
  • We have a white old fashioned rocker.  It was a gift from my mother.

rockers do not do well on carpet. but i will treasure it always.

  • We got a Little Castle glider, it's fully upholstered and we could customize the fabric.  They had tons of models to choose from at Precious Cargo in Smyrna.  We opted not to get the recliner option (sometimes I wish we had) and I got an ottoman at Target because I wanted one with storage.  The ottoman is key for breastfeeding.  Overall I love out chair and I'm glad it's the one item we splurged on!

  • We are planning to get a glider/recliner combo chair (looks like a big overstuffed upholstered chair), along with an ottoman that has the nursing step. We would really want to use the chair in the living room or elsewhere afterward. I would HIGHLY suggest going to the Comfortable Chair Store (in Roswell). They have quite a few floor options and the owner was super-helpful in helping to figure out what would/wouldn't work for us.

For example, I'm pretty short (DH is, too at only 5'6") so she helped steer us away from some of the ones that were taller in the back and was able to show ones that would be more comfortable for our height. She keeps a boppy and some side pillows and such there to help you kinda sit and see what you like or don't like. I liked that I could compare a lot of different styles/models side-by-side in the same location. Her prices are also well in line with what other places had (we looked at 2 or 3 other places and it seemed like most of them were "on sale" but still ended up more than what she offered).

You can order whatever you want in the way of fabrics. She also helped point us toward fabrics that would be better for cleaning with both baby AND a dog that sheds (we don't plan to let the beagle on the chair, but her hair gets EVERYWHERE and sticks).

Sorry...end infomercial....I was just super-impressed with the experience, and feel like we were able to make a better-educated choice...

  • We got a Dutailer glider that has a recline feature and ottoman with nursing stool.  LOVE IT.  However, the nice thing is I got it off Craigslist to save $$$$.  I don't know what I would do without it, honestly.

  • I bought a used glider from neighbor. NOt the most expensive chair, but I am so glad I had it.  We also had the gliding footstool.  I fell alseep on that many nights. Loved it and so happy to have saved the $$.
  • We got a "Best Chair" and Love it. Bub's and I still go in there and read while we glide in it. He loves to rock with me. We got the ottoman too and I am so glad we did because many a times he feel asleep and I would prop my feet up and take a nap too. Daddy has been known to nap in it too from time to time. :)
  • We have a glider - little castle is the brand

I like the gliders better esp for BF

    I didn't want one.

I did get an ottman and it was nice for me when I was BF. I'm short and it was nice to have somewhere to put my legs/feet

I love my glider b/c its comfy and it was perfect for BF esp at night.

  • We have a Best Chair Storytime Series Recliner.  I wanted a recliner for several reasons - we don't have a ton of floor space so I didn't want an ottoman taking up a lot of room first of all.  Also the back is higher and DH and I are both tall, so we can both easily rest our heads back on it.  It's just larger and cushier overall, without looking TOO much like a lay-z-boy :o)  It's seriously so comfy, I love it.  My baby isn't here yet, so I haven't put it to good use, but I know it'll be great.  It also swivels which is really nice...and it rocks, obviously.
  • Here's a pic - it's a tan chenille dot fabric and so soft!

  • We have the IKEA Poang & ottoman.  It's a rocker in a low recline position and super comfortable, and she loves being rocked in it.
