Cloth Wipes out of receiving blankets?

I just finished spring cleaniong DD' room and have a ton of reciving blankets- The one area I have been super lazy in is baby wipes. Sigh. I need to buckle down and get started with cloth wipes.

Have any of you made your own wipes out of flannel receiving blankets? Did you cut and sew a seam? Or just use pinking sheers? TIA!

yes, they work great! I pinked rectangles out, then ran a zigzag around the edge. just for fun i used some of the decorative stitches on my machine and coordinating (but not matching) thread.

  • I totally plan on doing this in the next few days. We go through wipes really fast right now. I have a serger so I'm just going to serge the edges.
  • I want to use cloth wipes as well.  I have a ton of baby washcloths and was just thinking of using those.  Do you just run them under warm water or what?

  • Oh, what a great idea. Thanks!
  • I took pinking shears and cut old receiving blankets into fours and use them now as wipes to get DD's hands and face after eating, for cleaning cloths, etc.  They would be great wipes.  You may want to double layer them to keep wetness from your hands, but my favorite wipes are flannel.

And yes, washcloths are also great wipes.  We have a spray bottle of water at the changing table.  You can use plain water, use a solution (California Baby has a brand, there are also brands of powder or cubes that you can add to water), or make your own with a couple drops of baby wash, baby oil and essential oil.
