Bedtime "routine"?

Just curious to know how everyone else puts LO to sleep... It's been two weeks for us and it takes about an hour to get him to sleep...which includes diaper change, feeding, rocking, rocking, holding, burping...and then i cross my fingers when i lay him down... and sometimes I have to start all over again.  I've been shooting for 8:30 so I can hang out with my DH for at least  a couple hours...

Still haven't offered a paci... not sure about starting that yet...???

Anyway, how do you get your LO to sleep?  Any tips?

Thanks:)

Re: Bedtime "routine"?

  • IMO, you can't really get into a routine this soon. We just started to get on a routine about 3 weeks ago (DS is 12 weeks). The month and a half, everything changed on a weekly basis, so a routine was totally out of the question. DH usually put DS to sleep and I did nightly feedings. GL

  • We didn't really get DD on a specific routine until she was probably a month old.  We start bedtime stuff around 8:30.  We do change, feed, burp, swaddle, and rocking/holding for about 10-15 min. and she goes to sleep around 9.  Sometimes, I can put her down when she is drowsy(yawning, blinking, deep breathing) and she will lie there for a few minutes and fall asleep on her own.
  • We just started to do a true "routine" about 2 weeks ago.  We start at about 8 or 8:30, and bathe him (only use soap/shampoo a few times a week), swaddle him, feed him, read him stories, then put him in his crib with the white noise on and his Fisher price aquarium going.   He now sleeps about 5 hrs in one chunk, eats, then gets a couple more hrs in.  GL!
  • I feel like our bedtime routine constantly changes so it is not really a routine :)  DS only started to sleep more regularly about a week ago (6 weeks since his due date.  He was born over a month early).  But we bathe him, quick massage, swaddle, put him down, read and leave.  I feel like that will change soon since he is growing out of the swaddle and is almost 3 months old.  Good luck.  find what works best for you.  it took us a really long time there for a while.
