Newborn hates car seat

We went to our 2 week checkup yesterday and it was the second time LO has been in the car seat (first time ride home from the hospital). Whenever the car was stopped she would start crying, slowly working up to full out screaming. She was full, clean nappy and as far as I can check is comfortable in the seat. I don't intend to travel or do much with her this young but we would like to take her to visit grandparents and great-grandparents without her arriving utterly upset-any suggestions?

  • Did you have the radio on?

If not, try turning it on when you get in the car and keeping it at a consistent volume for the trip.  I've noticed DS likes the background noise, and tends to stay asleep even at the stops now...

DD was like this the first few car rides.  She's used to it now and falls fast asleep as soon as we get in the car.  Don't worry, LO will probably get used to it.

  • I 2nd the static. It was the only thing that would ever calm DS down in the car. Other than that - she's only been in the car, what, 2 times?? I would just go out more and get her used to riding.
  • Our little guy hated his too at first.  I think it was so big and bulky compared to the tiny baby.  It's gets better though, he doesn't seem to mind it at all these days!   Maybe it will just take some growing and time! Good luck!

  • DD still isn't too fond of her seat, but she tolerates it now.  We bought a vacuum track off itunes and put it on a shuffle for her.  DH bought this little speaker because he hated listening to the vacuum track over the car stereo.  She loves this.  She rarely cries anymore.  The lengths we go to for peace!  Everyone laughs at us but I was losing my mind!!!!
  • DD2 still hates it, unlike her sister who would fall asleep the second we turned the car on. I've tried music but doesn't help, she still wails. She does better with windows open, not sure if it's the air or the sound. Also, lately we started lowering her seat shade over her and that seems to help but can't see her in mirror anymore.
