WWYD?

I got laid off a couple weeks ago.  I'd been thinking about quitting to SAH/focus on my photography business for quite some time, so I've sort-of come to think of losing my job as "meant to be" -- that the decision was made for me.  We've figured we can do it financially with a few sacrifices.  Our fabulous daycare (across the street!) has already filled our spots.

Right after the lay-off, I applied for a few jobs.  I just got a call today from an employment agency regarding one of the jobs I submitted my resume' for.  They want me to come tomorrow for an interview.  I have no childcare, it's with a sort-of "iffy" company (not sure about elsewhere, but a lot of the "agencies" here are jokes) and now I'm not sure I want to work -- especially at a crap job with little pay.

So, would you go to the interview (provided I can find someone to watch the kids)?

Re: WWYD?

  • If I didn't really want the job, no I wouldn't bother interviewing. They could use that time to interview someone who really needed/wanted the position.
  • I wouldn't go. If it were me, I stick to the SAH/photography plan. I'm sure the few sacrifices will be worth the rewards of staying home and focusing on the things you love instead of some meaningless job.

  • I wouldn't interview for a job you're not seriously interested in.  That's a waste of everybody's time.

  • I wouldn't go.  Sounds like a waste of your time and the company's.  I quit to go full-time at photography almost 5 years ago and haven't regretted it for a minute.  Took us a few years to build up to where the business was generating an income and I didn't quit until the business could at least afford itself (like we weren't putting any personal money into it).  It's doing great now.  In fact, I'm dreading what our accountant is going to tell us we owe in taxes b/c I know I made too much last year and should have been paying quarterly.
  • I would go to the interview to find out what the job is, what the salary is and what the benefits are.  If they don't add up to the amount you would make with unemployment and NOT paying childcare I wouldn't take it.
