Name: Christina

Due date: 5/23

Date placed on bedrest: 19w2d 12/28/09

Type: modified bedrest

Why: chronic placental abruptions, unexplained bleeding

Question of the Day? How are you getting ready for LO's arrival?  Internet shopping, quick trips to the store, getting DH to do the shopping?

I've done a little of both.  On days that I have dr. appts, I'll run a few errands and we've ordered furniture this way and I've hit a couple sales to pick up clothes for LO and my DD.  It's our second child so we have a lot of the 'gear' stuff but I need the little things like lotion, creams, diapers, replacement parts for pump, boy things for him, etc.  I'm hoping that DH will paint the second coat soon so we can move in the furniture.  I'm anxiously awaiting the bedding and room decorations to arrive so I can get his room ready.  Dr's and myself think that he's coming sooner than later and it's driving me crazy not having it all together.  I was so much prepared the first time!  It's crazy b/c even though I have all this time on my hands and Internet at my fingertips, I feel like I keep putting it off or just honestly forgetting about it until I get so overwhelmed and then don't know where to begin.  Plus, I'm trying to scrimp and save b/c I don't get paid maternity leave and want to stay with him as long as possible so I think that's hindered my desire to stock the shelves!

Update: Had to go to OB today b/c of bleeding and cramping/contractions.  NST didn't show anything and internal exam showed cervix closed and long.  So, another case of unexplained bleeding.  Glad that it stopped and she didn't put me in the hospital.  She vetoed increasing my procardia and said that if I have more contractions or spotting to come in to her office - even if it's every day - so she can catch something before it gets out of hand.

QOTD: How are you getting ready for LO's arrival?  Internet shopping, quick trips to the store, getting DH to do the shopping?

Answer: Luckily, I got a lot of Gabe's stuff before I got put on bedrest. Not only did I have my family baby shower at like 26 weeks, but my mom, thankfully got us our big items as well. Everything else since then, that I remember that I need left, I get off the internet and have it shipped here, then I play with it on the couch for awhile (of course, if its a huge item, i can't play with it though). I got my breast pump in today, and was so very excited because it'd been awhile since I got something.

Why: short cervix w/ a cerclage

QOTD: How are you getting ready for LO's arrival?

Well, luckily we had bought the furniture and started buying a lot of the little things. I buy a lot online or I find what I want and my mom or DH goes to the store to get it! Now that I can get up some, I'll be able to get more done without asking for too much help.

Updates: Yesterday, after my appt I went to my house too see all the progress that DH had made (I moved into my parents home on Feb 18th, after the cerclage placement, since someone is always here to help get what I need). It has been almost 7 weeks since I'd been there and it was so wonderful. They have said I could go to light activity but I think I'm still going to take it extremely easy 25weeks is still too early.  I hope everyone is staying cool in this massive heat wave (wowzer, 90 degrees today in the NC Mountains)

QOTD: How are you getting ready for LO's arrival?

I didn't want to purchase any baby stuff until we were in the safe zone- so at around 27 weeks I started to register online and get things together.  The furniture arrived yesterday (yay!) and I have been cleared for a baby shower this weekend.  So, my plan is to see what I get on saturday and then make a list of everything else I will need.

Honestly, after being put on bedrest I have conceded to the fact that I won't have everything just the way I want it.  I am okay with it.  I just want LO to get here safe and healthy- and as long as we have the basics (which I think we will) we'll be fine.

Updates:  I went for my 3 hour GTT this morning.  I'm not going to lie- it was terrible.  The sugary drink made LO kick like crazy and they needed 4 specimens of blood.  They had to take it all out of the same arm b/c my veins were not cooperating and now it's really sore.  I'm normally not such a complainer- but I hated it, and I am so glad it's over.  Fingers crossed that I passed....my love affair with Dairy Queen is at stake here, ladies.

qotd: my  mom has been a HUGE help in helping get stuff ready. i had done a lot of research online and she went to the store and ordered the cribs we want as well as our stroller. i picked out the car seat i think i want mh is going to go pick one up this weekend so i can see it in person. i am hoping after 28 weeks my dr. will let me out like 1 hour a week so i can go pick out my layette and some other items.

update:  i had a little bit of a scare this morning. my contraction monitoring showed some bizarre irregular activity (i have had 1 contraction in 2 weeks of monitoring). i was on my way to the dr. anyway so he did my regular exam (babies are great, cervix is the same) and sent me over to the hospital to get monitored for contractions just to make sure everything was ok.

i didn't have one contraction while being monitored there so they think it was just fluke with my machine and i got sent home.

Date placed on bedrest: 21w4d 4/06/10

    Type: hospital bedrest

    Why: shortened cervix/3 cm dilated/cerclage

This is my first time checking in, so I am going right to my update.  So, I had the cerclage procedure yesterday at 12:00 p.m.  The spinal was wonderful, the team was so nice, but I noticed that things were taking longer than expected.  The high risk OB doing the procedure came to me at the end to tell me that I was, again, dilated to 3 cm upon arrival (same as DD when we couldn't stop labor).  Good news is that I am having no contractions, Ben is not in distress, and the cerclage was successfully placed.  I was admitted to the hospital on bed rest for the next couple of weeks, at least, as we make sure that no infection springs up with i.v. antibiotics.  I am feeling very good today, more hopeful, and less frantic.  Thank you for all the kind words and prayers.  I'll keep everyone posted.  We are 22 weeks on Friday.  One day at a time.  :)
