xp: a question for sewers

Can you please recommend a sewing maching for me?  I'd like to get into it, but don't know the first thing about machines.  I'm just interested in making some fun things for around the house...drapes, throw pillow, maybe a simple dress or two here or there.  Not looking to make a living or anything.  Any recs for a nice, yet inexpensive machine for me to get my feet wet with?

I like my simple Singer from Target.  It's not fancy at all, but gets the job done.  I sew similar things to you.  DH's Grandma is a quilter (really good too) and he insisted that we buy a Singer when getting me mine.  I know there are other wonderful brands, but Singer has been around for a long time and makes machines that are affordable.
