Hey Moms With Cameras, questions

What do you have?

How much do you love it?

Does this look like a good deal?

I'm not looking for something top of the line, but our crappy point and (wait 4 seconds, then) shoot, camera finally died, and we've been looking at upgrading for a while now. I spent most of my teen years shooting SLR (film, though, 'cause I'm old like that), so I'm not worried about remembering the basics, I just don't know what a good deal for something like this would be, or if it's so old that it isn't worth it.

Any input would be appreciated!

  • I have a Canon Rebel XS

I love it to the ends of the earth.

I think so... i might be a touch outdated, but perfect for a starter.

PS - I am a Canon girl, so I might be a bit biased.

  • I have a Canon Rebel XS, too.  I also love it to the ends of the earth.  My entire setup (camera, basic lens, bag, extra battery, card case, etc) was $499 from amazon.com.

    I don't think I'd spend $350 for used, honestly.

  • I love our new canon, but I know that there are great deals on new ones out there (best buy had one for 499 that was 10 megapixels).  Personally I'd not get used off of ss, you'd have no way to get your money back if it wasn't as described (at least I'd think pp would want more proof of the condition).  I'd look on ebay since they offer buyer protection in addition to what pp offers.

  • That's a great camera, but I agree w/ the pp's that it's not a great buy.  New ones have gotten so affordable, that you should be able to find a good used one for less than that.  If it came with extra lenses it wouldn't be a bad deal, but not for just the basic kit.

  • I have a Canon XSI. I never want another camera again. I think it was $635 brand new and the XT is about 2 models older. I don't think it's a TERRIBLE deal used but I would just price compare on Ebay and Craigslist to see what they are going for. Whatever you get - a P&S WILL.NOT. catch those too quick baby smiles and eye contact plus the flash and depth (lack of) of the photos always made me mad so I think you can't go wrong with any DSLR.
