Help! Is this teething?

I have no clue what has happened to my child. Starting yesterday afternoon when I tried to nurse him, he did great on the first side, but then he started eating on the second side and kept popping off. I would get him to latch back on, but then he would come right back off. I knew he wasn't full. Then he started getting REALLY angry, I'm talking blood red face, crying, etc. so I stopped trying for about 10 minutes so he could calm down. As soon as I put him back down to nurse, he lost it again. He never ended up finishing eating. Then when I put him down for his nap, he freaked out and wouldn't go to sleep.

Last night he ended up nursing ok at bedtime because he was so dead tired and he nursed fine first thing this morning. But when I went to put him down for a nap, he freaked again; the worst crying I've ever heard from him. I got him up and ended up trying to feed him. Well, this time he did the same thing with nursing as yesterday afternoon. He started screaming crying on the first side. I thought I would switch him over and he ate like a champ on the other side. I was able to get him to go back and finish the first side, but it was a bit of a fight. Then, he screamed about 20 min. in his crib before falling asleep. I really have no clue why he would be screaming and refusing to nurse. I was just wondering if teething could cause this kind of behavior?

  • It could be teething. Or maybe an ear infection since it seems he doesn't want to be in a laying down position. I know our friend's baby, him crying to go to bed was the only clue they had that his ear was infected. He was fine any other time. I hope it gets better, whatever it is.

  • Ears is my first thought. Bailey did this every time he had an ear infection while I was nursing. I would end up giving him a bottle of pumped milk and propping him up to get him to drink it. Plus with him screaming laying down that's another sign at least for Bailey it was. Oh and there were a couple of ear infections where Bailey didn't run but a 100.4 barely a low grade fever.

  • EARS!!!! Its an ear infection. Has he had a cold recently? I JUST went through this and took Harrison to the pediatrician this morning. It started on Thursday- he would start drinking his bottle and then start hysterically crying. He went nuts. We would calm him, he would start drinking again and then hysterically cry. He only ate 9 oz. on Thurs. On Fri. he drank about 20 oz...only cried for one feeding,so I thought he was fine. then this morning, he started that hysterical crying again and would drink his bottle and I knew I had to take him in. Sure enough, ear infection in one ear. Poor guy....should have taken him in two days ago. I would definitely take him in on Monday if the crying keeps up. Poor little guy.
