Baby Names

WWYD?

So DH and I decided years ago that if we ever had a boy we would name him Lukas Scott. Recently my SIL told us she too loved the name Lucas (yes she knew this was our plan) and plans on naming her next son Lucas. We just found out yesterday that we are having a girl so I told DH that it looks like we'll never have our Lukas Scott Sad which makes me sad because we've wanted to use this name for so long. At one point when it came up my MIL made a statement about how having cousins with the same name is not a big deal - I personally disagree and am annoyed with my SIL for even wanting to use this name knowing that it was our plan all along. I'm not one for "claiming names", especially when you're not even pg, however it's the only boy name we really wanted to ever use. I figured if this LO was a boy then we'd get our name and if she chose to use it also then I would get annoyed about it then, but now I can't help having this nagging feeling that she will have another boy before we have one. So WWYD if your SIL already has a child and names him/her the name you want and then you find out your gonna have a child of the same gender?

  • I wouldn't spend so much time worrying about something that may never happen for either of you.

This. Also, there is no claiming of names. Whomever has the baby first gets the name. Period. It doesn't matter how long you've liked it.

  • I'm Catie.  My cousin, who is 12 months younger, is Cate.  It's never really been a big deal.
