1st Trimester

At what week is your 1st appointment?

With DD my first appt. was as soon as I got a BFP. I peed, it was + and I called the Dr. I was at the office for info,weight-in,and another pee test within two days. Now (about 3 years later) they want nothing to do with you until you have a rising beta and then you get an appt,at 7 weeks and US at 8weeks. I feel like I have no pre-natal care right now. It took 8 cycles and fertility drugs, I finally get KU and it seems that no one cares. I mean I know that even if there was a prolem with the pregnancy the Dr. couldn't do anything. Sorry...just had to get it off my chest.

So, when is/was your first appointment?

Re: At what week is your 1st appointment?

  • Don't know yet. They haven't even mentioned it yet. I've had 4 blood draws and we're gearing up for a 5th and a u/s. Hopefully soon. Lol. With DS and my last pregnancy they were scheduled for 8 weeks.

  • My first was at 8 weeks. Turns out I was really 6w5d according to the u/s.  Waiting totally sucks!
  • my office "normally" sees you at 8 wks.  Because I m/c last year, I was seen right away 5wks.

However, in your case with fertility issues and drugs, you would also be seen right away.  My office would consider you high risk right off the bat.  Where are you in CT?

  • My first appointment was around 7 weeks.  They did an u/s for measurement purposes.  I have another appointment in 2 weeks for my family history then another in 5 weeks for another u/s.

But my doctor didn't run any bloodwork on me like you said yours did.
  • How are you getting your beta's tested without going to the Dr? Mine had to be ordered by my Dr. which happened at my 1st appointment.

I had my 1st appointment at what I thought was 6 weeks 1 day with a US, which showed I only almost at 5 weeks, so my next appointment I will be at 6 weeks and 4 days or so.

I go directly to the hospital lab to get mine done and my MW calls me to tell me the results. Last time I didn't see my MW until after the m/c and this time it wont be until after a heartbeat is confirmed.

  • my drs office normally sees you around 7 or 8 weeks.

this time around i saw the dr a few days after i got my BFP (4 weeks) , but that was only because i needed my annual and they wanted that done asap before getting too far into the pregnancy.

Ahh, ok I read that wrong, I thought you were saying the Dr. didn't want to see you at all without rising betas.

From someone who had the shock of seeing an empty sac because of a U/S that was too early, a later appointment isn't all bad. Although I can imagine the wait is insane. This is especially, if your insurance limits how many U/S they will cover.

too far to see a doc and deliver  in Providence then.  When you called to make your appt, did you tell tem you were taking clomid, etc. I wonder if they even looked at your chart when booking you.

Oh and as for bloodwork.  I had mine done even before I went to the doc as well.  My doc had given me the script last year when I m/c.  She wanted them done right away.

  • I've had m/c's so my dr. saw me at 5 weeks, did a quick u/s. Took 17 viles of blood!!!  and just talked to me a bit.  Didn't do a pap cause I just had one done at the end of the year.

Scheduled next appointment 2 weeks later (Apr 12th - 7 weeks) will do an u/s to very things are progessing.

  • My Dr. sees patients who are not high risk for the first time at 8 weeks. So that was my 1st appointment. We got labs, u/s , pap done at that time.

That makes sense, I should have been more clear, mine were ordered by a MW as well not a Dr. but no one is just walking off the street into a lab to have Beta's done (meaning they have to be ordered by someone) I read the OP's post wrong.

PS It is so frustrating that my 2nd Beta's are done and approved but because it is Good Friday, the OB Clinic closed at noon so I can't get the results until Monday! I don't understand why someone at the lab just can't tell me what the fracken number is.

  • My first appointment was at 8 weeks, although they offered for me to come in sooner just to see a NP and talk about the do's/don'ts/particulars of pregnancy since this is my first.
  • mine is tuesday which is 8 weeks :)
  • Mine isn't until 9 weeks which at this point seems like a million years away. Waiting really does suck!

  • Our Dr.'s around here usually don't see you till you are 10 or 12 wks.  My first appt. to discuss this pregnancy was at 4 wks. due to a miscarriage.  I went back at 8 wks. for blood work and an u/s to see the heartbeat so we could all have a little relief in knowing everything was o.k.
  • First appointment - 8 weeks

    First ultrasound - 12 weeks

  • I've had three appointments.

    1. To confirm pregnancy with GYN---pelvic exam to check cervix, and blood work for progesterone and HCG(it was the day after my first missed period/positive BFP. . .around 4 or so weeks).

    2. At GYN, two weeks later, I had a u/s to date pregnancy at 6w4d

    3. At OB office, not scheduled, due to spotting(one week after my first u/s). Had an u/s and blood taken to test my blood type and Vitamin D(which I found out I'm deficient, so I'm on a supplement of 4000 iu)

My next appointment is April 9th, which would be my full 2 hour appointment with my OB. I know they are taking 6 viles of blood, but I'm not sure about the rest. I'm assuming they will do a Pap, since I haven't had one since May '09 and maybe another u/s due to some awful cramping today. I'll be 10w5d or so.

  • 1st appt - 5 days after BFP (it was the next available non-emergency appt slot) to confirm pregnancy, do bloodwork, talk to MW, etc

2nd appt - u/s 2 weeks later (measured 6w5d) at the ultrasound office

3rd appt - 4 weeks after the first appt with the midwife

  • My first appt wasn't supposed to be until 10 weeks (with the nurse) and then 11 weeks with the OB.  But I was so nauseous and needed some zofran so they saw me at 5wks to get a prescription, but it wasn't a real visit or anything. But I did mention I had been having way more cramping then I had with DD, so they sent me for an u/s.  We found out it was twins and then was sent for a follow up u/s 2 weeks later.  So now I have to wait until my previously scheduled appts with my doctor and the nurse.
  • Not til between 8-10 weeks at my dr's office.
  • First OB appointment was yesterday, at 7 weeks.  My first u/s was at 5w6d, but only because I have had a m/c.  I had betas drawn the day I got my bfp and 3 times after that for the next week and a half.

  • I just had my first OB appointment this week, 6 weeks along. The nurse midwife asked and answered questions, did my papsmear, and then I had bloodwork done.

My first ultrasound will be at 9 weeks.

  • I have my first appointment on Monday, which would be at 8 weeks (maybe 9wks since I might be off a week based on extremely high betas, 54,000 at 5wk2d), but it is with the nurse practitioner.  I'll have my US on wed.  I don't think I see my actual OB doc until the next appointment which I think they schedule around 20 weeks for the "big" US.  Unless you are high risk or have complications, I don't think you are seen much in the beginning.

  • My first appointment isn't until May 18, which is at 10 weeks.  It sounds so far away!  My doctor's office said they want you to be at least 8 weeks and then this is what they had open, so May 18 it is.  It sounds super far away though!

  • Had my bloodwork and ultrasound right away, we confirmed a heartbeat, no need to get beta re-done because it was over 4000 so we could move onto u/s.  The first appointment with my ob/gyn will be this week when I am 10 weeks pregnant.  That was my first appt last time during my pregnancy too but I saw my RE for the first 10 weeks, this baby was conceived without fertility treatments. Although I've been freaking out because I am so used to having lots of appointments, it is definitely different this time.
  • 1st appt. is at 8 weeks. No ultrasound until 20 weeks.

  • I was at my regular physician's office the same week I found out, and took a test there.  They sent me to an OB, who didn't schedule me until I was 9 1/2 weeks...  The waiting was so painful!  Even now that we're approaching appointment two, the wait has still been hard.
