Why do people insist on ruining good names?

A friend posted pics on facebook of her visiting a friend who had a baby.

The name? Esmae.

Esme is a beautiful, unique name as is. Why ruin it with a really bad spelling?

  • I've never seen or heard of either.  Hmmm.  I'm guessing they're both pronounced Es-may?

  • Well when you add vowels, it doesn't seem like she took it straight from the pages of Twilight.

Kind of like the difference between Jennifer and Gwyneppher.

Yes, they are. Only the Esmae spelling is made up (I did check a couple baby name websites, just to make sure there wasn't more than one correct spelling). It's french, and one of the characters in Twilight is Esme. :)

This is true. But I'd make fun of Gwyneppher too, LOL.

By the time our kids are old enough to pick on names, Twilight will probably be unknown anyways.

  • I didn't realize you changed the spelling, Luvlie. Isn't it Caedan? I'd seen that prior to the bump, so it never even occurred to me as a "made up spelling" (and babynames.com at least has yours listed as an alternate spelling too!)

I don't think your spelling falls under the "thuper spethal" category.

If you had done Kaydn or Caedyn or something it would be a whole 'nother story.

Yea it has a ton of spellings.  Its one of the names with the most lol

eta: we hadn't seen it spelled like that before, but didn't really care if it was or wasn't.

Maybe C is popular and a rock star, they added it?  lol
