What to get a 4 year old girl?

I was wondering if you ladies could recommend a gift for a 4 yr. old girl. I have a b-day party next weekend and haven't the foggiest idea what to get. Any ideas? TIA!

Dress up outfits, high heels, fake jewelry, anything princess or barbie or sparkley or extremely tacky.  Kids gravitate to that crap.

Books, puzzles, play makeup if you are bold, bubbles, dolls, clothes.

something crafty - but not too messy like watercolors, finger paints, sidewalk chalk,  - ; puzzles; if she has american girl doll maybe an outfit for the doll, bubbles or some kind of pool or water toy.  I would got to a toy store like Learning Express and ask what they suggest for 4 year old girls.  They ahve some cute stuff.  Some girly stuff also not mentioned that is popular is Fancy Nancy and Dora.

By recommendation of someone on this board, I bought a Fancy Nancy book and Fancy Nancy gift set that included a purse and sunglasses for a little 3 year old girl for her party today. HUGE hit!
