GD Mama's ~ How Are You Handeling Easter Dinner????

Since I'm Recently diagnosed with GD, I'm wondering how others with GD will handle Easter dinner. Any tips or pointers for a newbie?

Re: GD Mama's ~ How Are You Handeling Easter Dinner????

  • I volunteered to bring bread - we're going to make a whole wheat something loaf, so I'll know exactly how much I can have.  My mom is making a ham, and I told her to bake it her normal way (brown sugar crust) - I figure I'll just avoid the outer edge of the meat.  A little fruit, and I should be good on carbs.  My nurse also said she's not going to freak out if my numbers on Sunday aren't perfect

  • Hmm, hadn't really thought about this yet.  I guess I'll just try to load up on protein and veggies, and take it easy on the carbs and desserts.  My dietician had mentioned that usually a palm sized amount of something like potatoes or rice is about 15g of carbs, so I'll just try to estimate as best I can, and try to get some exercise after dinner.  Just watch out for sauces and toppings, as they can sneak in extra carbs.

If you get a high number after dinner it's not ideal, but it happens occaisonally.  As long as you try to make smart choices on Easter and you're doing fine the rest of the time it's probably not too big of a deal.
