When do you call the doctor w/ fever?

Hamp has a 100.4 fever, which is the highest it's ever been. He's been grouchy and pretty sleepy today. I gave him a dose of tylenol, and now he's asleep. I don't know if I should call the doc or not. At what point do you call the doc for a fever? Thanks

Re: When do you call the doctor w/ fever?

  • I think my pedi suggests 101.  If I were you I would give the tylenol a chance to work but if it didn't bring it down or if there were other issues (appeared really lethargic, dehydrated, etc) I would call.  Of course, if you feel like you should call, call.  That's what they are there for.

Hope it comes down and he's feeling himself soon!

  • I would call, especially since he's been more sleepy. Matt had a temp of 101.0 today, and we called. The pedi told us to bring him in, and he ended up having ear infections in both ears. This is his 6th ear infection, and we can always tell when he's getting one, but there were absolutely no clues this time around.

Our pedi said that they'll always see babies with low grade fevers, but don't get overly concerned unless if it's 103 or more.
