Are you the breadwinner in your house? Used to be when I worked FT, not anymore.

If you could financially SAH, would you? No. I could never be home full-time, it just isn't for me.

What do you do for work? Flight planner for a large ab-initio flight school.

Are you the breadwinner in your house? Yes.

If you could financially SAH, would you? No. I would want to at least work part time.  I've always been a hard worker and don't think that will ever change.

Are you the breadwinner in your house? not even close

If you could financially SAH, would you? I go back and forth, I could sah with a lifestyle change, but I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. My dream would be to work part time, but to do that successfully I would need to get out of big 4 public acct'ing.

  • What do you do for work?FT College Administrator

Are you the breadwinner in your house? No, but our salaries aren't that far off from each other.

If you could financially SAH, would you? I don't know.  I don't really think about it.  It is so much more than a salary thing for me.  I think you lose so much more when you don't work. There is the social aspect, but there is also deeper financial planning--retirement, returning to the workforce, saving for college...I just know an awful lot of older women who were SAHM's and then ended up divorcing and being left with nothing.  They are 70 years old and still working b/c they never set up a retirement account, or had substantial savings, etc.  It is hard for me to ever picture DH earning "enough" to make up for ALL the things I gain from working.  I feel like lots of women decide to SAH simply based on their salary (that's the "it's not worth it for me to work" argument) and don't look at the big picture.

If you could financially SAH, would you? Yes. I love that I can make enough money to pay our bills so that DH can follow his heart and work in Christian ministry, without worrying about how little his paycheck will be (he's not paid a consistent amount each week). But I have no desire for a career. I'd rather be home with DS.

What do you do for work? historian/editor

Are you the breadwinner in your house? Nope, we're actually very even, though he's passing my up a little more each year.

If you could financially SAH, would you? I don't know.  It's hard to imagine DH making double what he does now (which would be necessary).  For now I'm happy working but as DS gets older I think I'd like to work PT or work from home.  But that's really not feasible for me, in my field, any time soon.

What do you do for work? 3/4 time therepeutic residential counselor aka glorified babysitter for troubled teens.

Are you the breadwinner in your house? nope

If you could financially SAH, would you? we could now and I choose not to. It would be different if I had to put my young children in daycare, though. If DH didn't WAH I wouldn't work at all. I normally am at home most of the time as it is as the normal 9 to 5 world doesn't appeal to me. I tried it for a while and couldn't handle the stress. If I didn't have the job I do now I wouldn't work either. So I guess a lot of factors would come in to play for me to be a ft sahm, I feel I have the best of both worlds right now.

If you could financially SAH, would you? Financially I could right now, but intellectually and mentally, I couldn't handle it.  I love my job and worked very hard to get to where I'm at.  We're tentatively planning to have DC #2 in a year or so, and at that point, I'll go PT (several of the women w/ young kids at my hospital are currently working 60% and it seems to be a very nice set up).

  • What do you do for work? Business Strategy Consultant

Are you the breadwinner in your house? DH makes only slightly more than I do, and I'm catching up quickly

If you could financially SAH, would you? We can technically afford it, but I think I might lose some of my sanity if I SAH, on top of the significant paycheck. Plus, I'm very risk-averse, so I like having the extra cushion of my income. I might take a longer leave with the next kid (whenever that happens), but I don't think I would be happy staying home long-term.

  • What do you do for work? FT data monkey at a University

Are you the breadwinner in your house? We are pretty even, DH makes more - but if you added in my benefits we would be 50/50

If you could financially SAH, would you? No. I was unemployed the first 8 months of DD's life, and while I loved all of that time to bond with her, I totally lost myself as a person. I lost all drive and thinking ability. I am much happier being challenged intellectually on a daily basis.

  • What do you do for work? accountant

Are you the breadwinner in your house? We make pretty much exactly the same

If you could financially SAH, would you? I really wish I didn't have to work full-time.  My ideal situation would be to work 2 days a week, I like the structure of working and the outside interaction and purpose, but I miss DS like crazy working full-time and feel like I can't get anything done around the house now.

Are you the breadwinner in your house? nope, never will be...but I am the one who can get us medial coverage.
If you could financially SAH, would you? I was a SAHM until about a month ago.  I could continue, but am not enjoying it anymore and Lily seems to be happier overall when she is at daycare.  If we have another (when Lily is 4 or 5) I will probably stay home again for another year or so, but otherwise I want to work.

What do you do for work? I work 30 hours a week as a visiting nurse and will cut down to 22.5 hours after maternity leave with DD2.

Are you the breadwinner in your house? not really. I make more than DH but he also has military disability income.

If you could financially SAH, would you? No. I like my job and the hours are very conducive to child rearing and the part time schedule is a perfect balance for me.

What do you do for work? Retail manager

Are you the breadwinner in your house? DH and I make about the same amount. Some years I make a little more, some years he does; it depends on sales and our bonuses

If you could financially SAH, would you? I'm not sure. I would definitely rather spend more time with DD, but I think I might still want to work part-time. I went a little nuts during the 12 weeks of maternity leave I took, but then again, DD was not an easy baby at the beginning at all, so it might be different now that she is not colicky and screaming every second she is awake.

  • I am in surgical/medical sales

    I am not the breadwinner

My ideal would be to SAH and start a home based business so I would work, but when I wanted to and around the hours that worked for my family.  I am so over corporate america........

  • What do you do for work? Summer program administrator at a university

Are you the breadwinner in your house? Nope. I work in education ;)

If you could financially SAH, would you? No. We'd be able to manage if I was at home but I have no desire to. I'm proud of my career and really enjoy what I do. Not to mention that I'm a better mommy because I work- I'm better organized, the time with my kids is truly valuable, I feel more fulfilled. Went back to work the other week when DS turned 8 weeks and I have no regrets.

If you could financially SAH, would you? I don't think so, I was on leave for 5 mos w/ DS2 and towards the end I was starting to lose it.  Could have been cumulative lack of sleep too.  I think working PT is best for me, a good balance.

  • What do you do for work? Marketing and Comm Director for a fitness manufacturer

Are you the breadwinner in your house? We are almost exactly 50/50

If you could financially SAH, would you? Probably for a few years. I think ideally I would do freelance and contract work on projects that excite me, or find something even more part time. Right now I work 32 hours a week and really like it. I would eventually need to go back to work for my own edification. I like making my own money and having the freedom to spend it!

  • What do you do for work? I will be a full time student (Nursing Midwifery)

Are you the breadwinner in your house? Um, no. But I will most likely be the breadwinner when I graduate.

If you could financially SAH, would you? Currently I SAHM, but it is not for me. Hence, why I'm going back to school.
