Is it right to call the cops on door to door sales people?

My subdivision doesn't have an HOA, but we do have a no soliciting sign posted AND we're a COPS neighborhood.  I freaking hate door to door sales - like worse than the rock bags, lol!  The guy just came and rang the doorbell.  I had JUST sat down, I'm tired, I am half nekkid, and I don't want to answer the door.  I just sat there and didn't answer - he could probably see me sitting in here.  My dogs were going nuts at the window barking at him - in fact, they're still all riled up.  It was probably AT&T.  They send people out about once a year in the spring.

Unforunately, if the guy was from AT&T, he probably had a permit and as long as he has that permit he is allowed to go door-to-door.  My husband was a cop for 9 years.  He loved asking for a solicitor's permit when they came to our door.  What was even better was watching them squirm when they couldn't produce it.

from what I have heard my mil once invited the jehovah's witness folks in and lectured them.

DH just stood there in the open doorway and let them witness to him.

I have a little sign by the doorbell that says "No soliciting. This includes religious institutions." I can't stand soliciting to begin with. It riles me up even more when it is religious solicitation.

Ha!!  That sign is hilarious!  We have to dogs - cocker spaniels - and they were going NUTS at the window next to the door.  Unforch they aren't very intimidating looking, lol.
