Help - Puffy, Leaky Eyes

My 14 month old DD has very puffy, leaky eyes - lots of discharge, they were hard to open this morning, etc.  I feared pink eye; however there's absolutely no redness so I don't think it's that.  She's had a very mild cough and a little bit of a runny nose, but this eye symptom is new to us for colds.  Has anyone dealt with this?  I have bad seasonal allergies but they didn't start until I was 10, could this somehow be allergy related?

Poor girl :-(.

  • It sounds like pink eye.  When my daughter had it, her eyes never turned pink or red.  Mine did though :P

  • my ds had a terrible case of pink eye in both eyes. They just poured out green and yellow goop. It was gross.

but they never turned red. in kids I think its more of a discharge

  • Sounds like pink eye. DD has had it several times and they were never pink or red, just puffy and leaking gross stuff. You need Rx eye drops.
  • SOunds like pink eye, DD's eyes Never got red either, she just woke up one morning with nasty crusty eyes.

Once you get her to the doc and get her treated, change all of her sheets, and blankets out and wash them in Hot water, also make sure you disinfect all of the door knobs, phones, sink handles, etc. in your house, it is so nasty contagious.  This helped keep H and I from getting it.

  • Is the skin puffy around the eye, more like a swollen eye? My lo had this and it was caused from a sinus infection that went untreated (obviously bc we didn't know he had one). My pedi said that infection is more serious than pink eye and he was put on antibiotics. DId you make an appt with your pedi? I don't think that could be allergy relatated.

  • Thank you everyone!  Her doctor office isn't open yet and we're trying to come up with a game plan for the day (DH and I both work).  Looks like he'll stay home with her and take her in to the doctor.

Yep, I'm on the pink eye boat too because the same thing happened to my DD this weekend.  On Saturday, she has really puffy goopy eyes, on Sunday, the goop was better but her eye was red, and she was much improved by yesterday (still red though).  We started with antibiotic eye drops Saturday afternoon though.  Good call to take her in to the ped.  Hope she feels/looks better soon!
