Hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Has anyone's little one had it?  DS has had it now for 2 days and he seems to be handling it well.  Nothing in his mouth yet, just on his hands and feet.  Doctor said that there is nothing we can do but wait it out and manage his discomforts.

Is it going to get worse?  Any tips?

  • ughh...my LO just had it.  It was only in his mouth, and he was so miserable, poor thing.  I don't have much advice for you.  Popsicles and a little chloraseptic spray really helped the sores in his mouth.  I hope your little guy feels better!

  • charlie had a really mild case of it.  just ran a temp and had a little bit of the spots in his mouth.  he was ok after a few days, but it sucked bc there is nothing you can do!!  hope your LO feels better soon.
  • My DD had it around your LO's age and only on her hands and feet and besides the fever and blisters you wouldn't have known she was sick.  She was perfectly normally but no blisters in her mouth.  My niece got it from my DD and she was miserable, blisters in the mouth throat and everything.  However I thnk my DD broke out completely within 24 hours and then it was just getting rid of the blisters.  GL
  • this is one of my biggest fears!!

How does a LO get it? From another child or is it a strand of something else?

  • I have no idea how LO got it.  I stay at home with him, so I guess he got it from the park, grocery store, or pool but I am usually very good at washing his hands, sanitizing, etc.  I guess it still can happen though.

  • Hi there!!

G has had it twice, I guess it's rare to get it more than once but he had it last summer and then got it again this past Christmas break. He had a high fever and the spots on his hands and feet. He had more spots in his mouth at Christmas time and didn't want to eat. Basically we just offered him lots of different things to eat and let him have whatever he would actually eat, which wasn't much.

I'm sorry, it really sucks. I hope N feels better soon!

Hey!  I hope he doesn't get it twice, oh that would suck.  It seems another one of his symptoms is to hate me.

We all need to get together soon, well after Noah gets better of course.
