Moving to CO?

My husband and I are contemplating a move to Fort Collins area in a few months.  He's hoping to do CSU's Social Work program in a couple of years.  What do you ladies love about the area?  Are there great things to do/places to go with the kiddos?  We have a 20 month old and a 6 month old.  Also, I'm an RN and doing a google search points me in the direction of Poudre Valley Health System as the network of hospitals-and my most likely place to find a job.  Any other recommendations of where I should look for a nursing job?  Thanks!

Re: Moving to CO?

  • I feel like a broken record since I just posted on two other posts this same info, but the CO Nest board has a lot of moms who live and work in Fort Collins and there are several nurses on there who can give you advice about places to work around there also.

It's a much more active board than this one.

  • I love Ft. Collins!  We moved here in '06.  It is a very family friendly town with lots to do.  Old Town is awesome, with lots of restaurants and shops.  Most activities in town, from running races to festivals have a very family-centric feel.  It's also great if you love the outdoors.  Mountain biking, camping, hiking, swimming are all right here.

If you move here, I would avoid living down off of Harmony Rd.  It's very busy down there and you kind of lose the feel of living in Ft. Collins.  I would try to aim for west central (North of Horsetooth and West of Shields).  This allows for easy access to Old Town and CSU.  However, I would avoid living too close to CSU, because you run into dealing with idiot college kids (we know and we're selling our house and moving out of a big rental area).  They just don't care how loud they are or how irresponsible they are.

As far as work, Poudre Health is the biggest hospital in town, but there's also Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland (a little further south of Ft. Collins) and Banner has a hospital in Greeley.  I have a few friends who live in Ft. Collins and work at the hospital in Greeley.
