iphones & at&t

I am thinking about changing my service to AT&T 1) to get a iphone & 2) to be on the same service as DH.  My sister just mentioned that she heard folks in her office saying that at&ts service contract is ending with apple and that other vendors will be able to offer the iphone.  has anyone heard about this and where can I read more on it?  THANKS

I have heard this I just dont know how far out in the future this is.

If Verizon picks up the iPhone, I'm switching back in a hot minute.  I hate the AT&T service.  I get dropped calls all.the.time!  Never had that problem with Verizon.

It's all rumors right now. There is a new iphone coming out this summer I think and its still with AT&T.
