Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is DD ready to Potty Train?

DD is almost 19 months and I am starting to think she *may* be ready to officially start potty training.

We have had a potty in our downstairs bathroom for a couple months. She knows what the potty is, and will sit on it for a minute or 2 at a time, sometimes with clothes on sometimes without. She has gone pee on the potty 3 times and has pooped once. Yesterday she went all by herslef while I was cooking in the kitchen and came and pulled me over to show me. She was so proud of herself!

Anyway, are these signs she is ready to fully potty train? I dont want to start if she isnt ready.Everything I read says she needs to be able to communicate, which she can and she needs to be able to keep dry in her diaper for a couple hours at a time, which I dont think she can right now.

How do i go about starting this process? Im so at a loss with this. It has been the one thing I have been dreading since her birth, I just feel so clueless. My BFF told me to let her run free naked while we are at home and let her go when she wants.. Is this the standard approach?

If you got this far, Thanks!

Re: Is DD ready to Potty Train?

  • Well I haven't started to PT myself but my MIL is doing it right now with the little girl she babysits. (this is what she does) Put her in pull ups and ask her every 1-2 hours if she has to go potty. When started understanding to go in the potty and not in the pull ups then put her in panties. (My MIL says dont let tinkerbell get wet or she'll cry!) Just keep asking her and I think she will pretty soon start understanding to go in the potty and not in her pants. BTW I think your LO is DEF ready to potty train. Good luck! for more ideas maybe use google
