Bloodwork, mixed emotions?

so we had my DS's 15 month well visit about 3 weeks ago...mentioned DS was peeing whole lot @ night and told her we had to get 'super diapers' cause of the overflow.  She said that he was due for blood work anyway (never heard of normal blood work @ 15 months) and that we could see what if anything popped up then.  So she order BASIC bloodwork.  Took 2 weeks to get answers and when i called to get the answer i was told that his creatinine was low and his BUN was to high.  So she said that he is dehydrated????  How can he be dehydrated when our complaint was he was peeing TOO much?!

Plus asked RN friend who said dehydration makes both levels raise, not one drop.

So pedi's response after i complained on how it could be dehydration was told to rule it out they want to do MORE blood work.  First work up was 5 vials that absolutely tramatized him.

I don't know what to do now.

Any advice on this?  He litterally drinks 40oz of fluid or more a day.  Dehydration to me is the LAST thing i would think of....

Re: Bloodwork, mixed emotions?

  • my first thought is probably very very wrong, and I'm *see ETA*  in the medical field, but when my DH was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, his first symptom (among other symptoms) was that he would peeing all.the.time and couldn't get enough to drink.

Maybe when they run his bloodwork next time ask them to check his sugar if they haven't already.

ETA:  I'm NOT, REPEAT NOT, in the medical feild!!!!

Diabetes was actually the first thing that crossed my mind too. I sure hope it's not diabetes and he just happens to be a thirsty little guy.

  • A sugar level is included with the basic metabolic panel. If she didn't mention that that was off, it shouldn't be diabetes. I don't know...If he doesn't have any other symptoms, I give it another week and see.
image Alcoholism is not determined by how much you drink or how often, but by negative consequences in your life that do not alter your drinking habits.
